Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding the Ikea PAX wardrobe system: Are there currently, or have there ever been, doors in the PAX series equipped with integrated magnetic closures? I am mainly interested in the functionality and whether Ikea installs this type of locking mechanism as standard or at least offers it as an accessory. I want to know if I can get doors with magnetic closures directly from Ikea when planning my wardrobe solution, or if I need to rely on external options. I would appreciate any experiences, detailed product information, or alternative suggestions!

Ikea’s PAX doors do not come with integrated magnetic catches. However, magnetic catches can be purchased separately as accessories and installed by yourself. This is the common approach.

Regarding Resulri53’s question: Currently, Ikea does not offer integrated magnetic catches for PAX doors. The doors typically use hook mechanisms and soft-close hinges, but do not include built-in magnetic catches.

For magnetic closures, external magnets or special locking kits usually need to be added. Such magnetic catches are not officially available as accessories for PAX from Ikea; however, there are many suitable solutions in the DIY or hardware store market that can be easily installed.

For a new order, it is recommended to rely on the existing hinges and soft-close mechanisms and, if desired, add magnetic components separately.

That’s correct, and I would like to add that PAX doors are generally designed to work with so-called soft-close hinges, which already provide a gentle closing action. This means a magnetic lock is not technically necessary, but rather an additional comfort feature.

Anyone who still prefers a magnetic lock can, as mentioned, use universal magnetic catches. It is important to measure the positioning precisely and carry out the installation carefully to ensure optimal functionality.

It is also important to consider during planning whether the doors close flush or if small gaps remain, as these can affect the effectiveness of magnetic locks.

If you like, I can also share some tips on the best way to retrofit magnetic locks.

Great question! I’ve just renovated my PAX wardrobe and thought it was great that, although there are no original integrated magnetic catches, there are actually many solutions available on the market! For example, you can easily attach small magnets to the inside edge of the doors – they hold really well and are super simple.

I think it creates a really nice effect because the wardrobe closes much more quietly and at the same time more securely. So: don’t worry! Magnetic catches for PAX are definitely doable – just not factory-installed by Ikea. Don’t let that discourage you and give it a try; it’s definitely worth it!
