Lobe42Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into the Brimnes furniture series from Ikea, specifically their hinges. I am interested in whether there are commonly reported issues with the hinges on Brimnes furniture based on experience.
More specifically, I wonder if the hinges tend to wear out, loosen, or get damaged prematurely due to material quality, installation errors, or regular use. It would also be helpful to know if there are any differences between the different types (e.g., wardrobe vs. chest of drawers).
Can anyone share their own experience regarding how durable the hinges are, and if there are any typical weak points? I want to avoid having to frequently readjust or repair the hinges due to problems. Thank you in advance!

Hey Lobe42,
I once had the Brimnes dresser, and after some time the hinges started to creak a bit. It was annoying, but a little oil fixed it quickly.
I think, like with many pieces of furniture with metal hinges, a bit of maintenance never hurts. So no worries, it's not the end of the world. 😉

I understand your concern, Lobe42. Especially with hinges, you often only notice if something is wrong after extended use.
From my own experience, the hinges on my Brimnes wardrobe loosened a bit after about a year, and I had to readjust them. It was a minor inconvenience, but not a major effort.
I think it's good to share these topics in the forum because it helps us better assess together how common these issues really are.

From your experience, how often should the hinges be serviced to prevent premature wear? And do you sometimes get the impression that the hardware is made with thinner material to save costs?
