Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into the Brimnes furniture series from Ikea, specifically their hinges. I am interested in whether there are commonly reported issues with the hinges on Brimnes furniture based on experience.
More specifically, I wonder if the hinges tend to wear out, loosen, or get damaged prematurely due to material quality, installation errors, or regular use. It would also be helpful to know if there are any differences between the different types (e.g., wardrobe vs. chest of drawers).
Can anyone share their own experience regarding how durable the hinges are, and if there are any typical weak points? I want to avoid having to frequently readjust or repair the hinges due to problems. Thank you in advance!

I think the whole hype around hinge problems with Ikea furniture is often exaggerated. Sure, you can find minor flaws with some models, but Brimnes is not one of the more delicate ones.
Some people just make a fuss. If you need to readjust every few months, it’s either poor assembly or simply overloading. And honestly: no piece of furniture is indestructible, especially at these prices.
Compared to high-quality hinges, Ikea’s aren’t top-notch, but they are fine for everyday use. If someone constantly has issues, they should take a closer look at how the furniture is used or assembled.

How often, in your opinion, should the hinge be maintained to prevent premature wear?Personally, I lubricated my hinges after about 1-2 years to keep them operating smoothly. Otherwise, no specific maintenance interval is necessary.

No piece of furniture is indestructible, the prices are simply too low.Exactly, that’s how I see it too! If you want high-quality hinges, you have to invest more elsewhere. But for the price, I think the Brimnes hinge solution is perfectly acceptable. And occasional oiling will keep them working well for a long time.
