Hello everyone, I plan to install the back panel of my Ikea Brimnes dresser and am looking for helpful assembly tips to make the process as smooth and secure as possible. I realize the instruction manual is generally sufficient, but maybe there are tricks or experiences that can make attaching the back panel easier or prevent potential issues. For example, questions about stabilizing measures, the appropriate type of screws, aligning the back panel, or preparing the underlying structure. I would appreciate it if anyone could share their experience on the best way to install the BRIMNES back panel so that it is stable and no damage occurs.

I recently did this: Align the back panel carefully and secure it with the small nails included in the package. It is important not to nail them in crooked, as this can cause the dresser to warp slightly. Beforehand, check lightly to ensure everything is flush.

I can confirm that, but at first, I also had trouble driving the nails in straight without damaging the back panel. My tip would be to lay the back panel flat on a stable surface while assembling it so it doesn’t wobble as you hammer.

I also only learned after several attempts that the dresser feels more stable when the back panel is fitted properly. Sometimes you can position the nails better with pliers if your fingers can’t reach well. How do you usually handle this?

Nail the back panel flat on the floor. If the dresser is already standing, it is often fiddly and doesn’t fit properly. For me, this method worked better and faster.

Thanks for the advice, that sounds reasonable. I’m also wondering if there could be issues attaching the back panel after the dresser is already assembled, instead of before standing it up. Do you have any experience regarding the best time to install it? I want to avoid the back panel warping or not fitting properly if it’s nailed in later.

Additionally, I’m interested in whether using the supplied nails instead of screws is a good idea. Some recommend screws for better hold—what do you think?
