Rochusjan20 Feb 2024 18:47Hello everyone,
I am planning to transport some Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces to my new apartment soon and wanted to ask if anyone in this forum has experience with moving this particular furniture series. The BRIMNES models are usually quite flat, made from particleboard, and can be quite sensitive to edge damage or warping.
I am especially interested in tips on how to best prepare the furniture for transport, whether it makes sense to fully remove the screws or just loosen them, how to protect the panels from scratches, and how to secure the load properly—especially when using a private car or a small van. Are there also recommendations on how to stack the parts as compactly and safely as possible without damaging the furniture?
It would be great if someone could share practical experience or proven methods for transporting BRIMNES furniture. Many thanks in advance!

As a supplement and a bit more detailed:
Transporting Ikea BRIMNES furniture requires particular care when disassembling and storing the individual parts. Since the furniture is made of particleboard, it tends to warp or chip under excessive pressure. I recommend the following approach:
- Disassemble the furniture completely, if possible, to better protect the individual panels.
- Do not fully tighten the screws, but also do not remove them completely. This way, you can easily fix them again after transport.
- Use soft blankets or furniture covers to protect the surfaces. Alternatively, large bubble wrap sheets are also suitable to minimize pressure marks.
- When stacking the individual panels on top of each other, always place a soft layer in between to prevent abrasion marks.
- Stack parts of the same size on top of each other as much as possible to avoid slipping.
- For transport in a car, it can be useful to work with tension straps or to use non-slip mats in the cargo area.
For smaller transport vehicles like station wagons, be careful that no panels press against sharp edges to prevent chipping. If you want to transport the furniture partially assembled, I would only recommend this for very stable frames; otherwise, the individual panels are too delicate.
Are there specific models or pieces within the BRIMNES series that you want to transport? For large wardrobes, for example, disassembly is generally better, while it might not be strictly necessary for smaller shelves.

You shouldn’t fully screw in the screws, but also don’t remove them completely. This way, you can easily secure them again after transport.I can confirm this. I recently transported the BRIMNES dressers and only slightly loosened all the screws.
Additionally, I recommend protecting edges with painter’s tape, especially for particleboard furniture, which can chip quite easily. I wrapped the panels in old blankets and placed them loosely in the van; never stack them without protection!
Use as flat transport units as possible to prevent pressure marks. If that’s not possible, place soft padding between the parts. It also helps to line the vehicle’s floor with rubber mats to keep everything from sliding around when braking.
If you hire professional movers, ask in advance whether they use protective measures during loading and transport, as this saved me a lot of trouble.
