Hello everyone,

I have a problem cleaning my Ikea Pax cabinets with glossy fronts and would like to know if anyone has tips or proven methods to clean them gently but effectively. My fronts are very sensitive to scratches, and I am worried that harsh cleaning agents or abrasive sponges could damage the surface.

It is important to me to preserve the glossy finish without leaving a matte layer behind. I have also noticed occasional streaks, especially when I clean the cabinet body with water and regular cloths.

Does anyone know of a specific care product or method that works well for this? Maybe also advice on the recommended cleaning frequency or procedure? I look forward to any experiences or recommendations!

Thank you in advance.

Hello Fepofe,

For high-gloss fronts on Ikea Pax wardrobes, I recommend cleaning in several steps to protect the material:

- Use a soft microfiber cloth. It absorbs dirt well without causing scratches.
- For light dirt, a slightly damp cloth with clean tap water is sufficient.
- For tougher stains, you can use a mild soap solution, such as a little dish soap in water. Important: Never spray directly onto the furniture; instead, dampen the cloth.
- After cleaning, wipe again with a dry microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, alcohol, or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the surface.

Regular dusting helps prevent coarse particles from scratching the surface. Also, when cleaning, avoid circular motions; use straight lines instead.

I hope this helps!

I believe this is an important point that is often overlooked. High-gloss surfaces are frequently cleaned too aggressively, which can cause micro-damage over time. However, I wonder if a mild soapy solution is really enough for tougher dirt, such as stubborn fingerprints or grease marks?

I have read that some users rely on special polishes designed for high-gloss furniture—although there is a risk that not every manufacturer clearly indicates the ingredients, which could potentially harm the piece.

Therefore, it might be essential to test such products on an inconspicuous spot first.

Another idea could be to adjust the cleaning frequency to prevent heavy soiling from occurring in the first place. Additionally, I am curious whether it is better to wipe the surfaces more often with a quick clean or less frequently but more thoroughly.

What experiences do other members have with regular maintenance of high-gloss fronts?

An additional idea would be to arrange the cleaning frequency so that heavy dirt build-up is avoided from the start.

I recommend a quick weekly wipe with a dry microfiber cloth and, if needed, use a damp cloth with a mild soap solution. No polish or alcohol. This keeps the surface clean for a long time without causing damage.
