I am currently looking into whether the cabinet doors of the IKEA Platsa system are really suitable for frequent use. I am particularly concerned about the durability of the hinges, the sturdiness of the door panels, and how the doors hold up with daily opening and closing – for example, in households with multiple people or in workspaces where they are accessed often. Does anyone have experience or insights on how stable the doors actually are? I am also interested in whether there are any known weak points that occur with long-term use, such as warping, rubbing, or issues with the hinges’ functionality, especially with the soft-close or other mechanisms.

Rashadmeo1 Nov 2021 16:27Hey kufaju, I have my Platsa cabinets in the wall unit and use them really every day. The doors hold up great, and I also have the soft-close version – it’s fantastic! Of course, I’m careful not to slam the doors too hard, but otherwise everything is stable and feels high quality.
After more than a year, I can say that neither warping nor wear is visible. The hinges work perfectly, and even small children in the family have had no issues with them. So I can definitely recommend this system for frequent use!

Sure, there are cheaper or more expensive systems, but the overall package of flexibility, design, and value for money is excellent. You can easily customize the doors if they start to fit a bit loosely.
In my experience, the soft-close mechanism has worked perfectly for almost a year and a half with no issues. If you take some care and check it regularly, you can enjoy it for a long time.
You just have to understand that IKEA furniture is designed for the average household, not for continuous professional use. But for normal daily opening and closing, it is perfectly suitable!
