Hello everyone,

The new kitchen itself is already planned and purchased.
Since the rest of the kitchen furniture is also being reconsidered, I am currently thinking about where or on what to place our aquarium. Since it certainly weighs around 200 kg (440 lbs) with water, sand, and stones, the base cabinet naturally has to be correspondingly sturdy. Unfortunately, I can’t find any information on how much weight the Metod base cabinets can support.

Maybe you have a good alternative suggestion for a bench, chest, or shelving unit that can withstand this kind of weight over time.

Best regards,

Franz

Hello,
a Metod cabinet should be able to support that, especially if the cabinet is attached to the wall. The specification for the legs gives an indication: 125 kg (275 lbs) per leg, so 500 kg (1,100 lbs) for 4 legs. To be sure, you can ask Ikea again through their Facebook page.

I also have an aquarium in the kitchen on a Metod base cabinet...
I placed a square wooden beam under the countertop between both side walls of the base cabinet and fixed it to the side walls with brackets – I wanted to prevent the countertop from bowing.

How many liters are we talking about in your case...?
