Hello everyone,

I recently bought a KALLAX shelving unit and noticed during assembly that some of the shelves were slightly warped. The distortion isn’t extreme, but it is definitely noticeable and visible, which concerns me regarding stability and appearance. My question is: Should I return the shelving unit or the shelves, or is this slight warping common for KALLAX furniture and does it settle with use? Are there any experiences about when this is a valid reason for return and how IKEA usually handles such cases? Thanks for your opinions and advice!

I will return the shelf tomorrow and try to exchange it.

Please share how the response was on site. I am curious to see how customer-friendly the reaction really is, especially with KALLAX.

Good decision with the exchange.

A small tip: Sometimes it’s worth politely pointing out material defects when returning items and staying calm. This greatly increases the chances of goodwill gestures.

I hope everything goes well for you.

Update from my side:

I went to IKEA today and returned the KALLAX shelf. The staff on site were very friendly and offered to exchange it without any issues. However, they did not have the same model in stock at the moment, so I either have to pick it up later or wait for a delivery.

They also advised me to check the parts for any warping before purchasing next time, which I think is a sensible recommendation.

Overall, I am satisfied with the process, even though it involves a bit of hassle. Thanks to everyone for your support!

See, that’s how it should be. Finally, a hassle-free return experience. Hopefully, the replacement part is perfect now! 🙂

It's great that everything worked out so well.

Next time, just check on site, and these kinds of discussions can be avoided.
