Hello, I bought a house and in the kitchen, the 3 halogen spotlights above the countertop keep turning off. I have checked everything, and it seems fine. Most likely, the transformer is just shutting off. I would replace it with a new one, but unfortunately, the wiring is behind the wall cabinets... Planning in 1998 wasn’t very forward-thinking. The transformer piques my curiosity, and I can’t find any information about it online. I would like to replace the halogen lamps with LEDs. However, I can’t find any wattage rating on the transformer to know what range I should be within. I took a photo of it. Can anyone make sense of the specifications?

Elektra transformer with input 230 V and output 11.5 V/2.6 A (type GT 0.03)

The connection cable at the transformer will most likely have only 2 conductors, as it is double insulated. In this case, no more are needed.

It doesn’t seem like you have much experience with electrical work. Wouldn’t you rather get some help? I would consider it worth the effort to pull the cables out from behind the cabinet instead of trying to splice something together.

I also agree that certain tasks should be carried out by a professional, but replacing the transformer with an LED driver here will not be an issue.

Or you can skip the transformer and simply use 230V LEDs.

The cables that were previously used for 12 V halogen lights should also be suitable for 230 V. This may be the case, but it is not necessarily always true.

That is indeed a valid point.
