Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Brimnes bed at home with built-in drawers that are unfortunately a bit stiff or sometimes stick. I want to repair or at least maintain the drawers myself to fix the problem permanently. My question to the community is: What tools and aids are best suited to make repairing the drawers of the IKEA BRIMNES easier? I already have several screwdrivers and a hammer, but I wonder if there are special tools that can improve access or simplify adjusting the drawer slides. I’m also interested in tips on how to best assess possible damage or wear on the rails and rollers. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hello Timken, I think your concern is very well expressed and understandable. To carry out repairs or maintenance on the BRIMNES drawers, I recommend having some basic tools and small aids that can save you a lot of work:
- Phillips screwdriver (matching the screw size, usually PH2)
- Flathead screwdriver for releasing clips or covers
- A set of Allen keys, in case there are connections with hex screws
- A small lubricant (e.g., silicone spray) to keep the runners smooth
- A small hammer and possibly a plastic wedge to carefully position parts

Always pay close attention to how the components are assembled when loosening them, as BRIMNES often uses simple constructions that are quite easy to reassemble.
If the runners are worn, cleaning and lubricating them often helps. Good luck! If you have any further questions about the procedure, feel free to ask.

Hello Timken, to address your question more systematically, here is a brief guide on tools and procedures for repairing BRIMNES drawers:

1. Preparation: Work in a well-lit, clean workspace. Place a protective mat or pad underneath.

2. Tools:
- A Phillips screwdriver (PH2) is the most important tool, as almost all screws use this type.
- A flathead screwdriver can be used as a lever for small plastic parts.
- A tape measure or ruler helps to properly adjust the drawer slides.
- A hex key (usually 4 mm) is often needed for furniture connectors.
- Lubricant for wooden or metal parts; silicone spray works well.

3. Tips for troubleshooting:
- Pull the drawer partially out and check for damaged rollers or braking mechanisms.
- Check if the slides are bent or dirty.

4. Repair:
- Loosen screws carefully to avoid breaking any fittings.
- Clean and lubricate parts.
- After reassembly, move the drawer back and forth several times until it runs smoothly.

I hope this helps you a bit. If you want, I can also briefly explain how to carry out typical repairs step by step using these tools.

A sturdy Phillips screwdriver is essential for loosening most screws on BRIMNES. Use silicone spray to make the sliding rails smooth again. No special tools are needed.

I always use a small flathead screwdriver to pry when clips are engaged. A tape measure also helps to precisely align the drawer within the guide rail.

I can only agree with that. It always reassures me to see how easily something can be improved when you use the right tools and materials. I had overlooked a lot until I used the spray. You shouldn’t rush repairs like these either; we all learn more with every attempt.
