Hello everyone, I have a question about the Ikea Besta system, specifically regarding how to keep the doors permanently aligned. When slamming them shut or after extended use, the doors tend to shift so that they no longer close flush or start to sag slightly. I have already tried readjusting the hinges, but the effect usually only lasts temporarily. Are there any proven tricks or special modifications that can be made to ensure the doors remain stable and properly aligned over time? I would also like to know if it is advisable to install additional hinges or special stoppers. Any experience, tips, or even solutions would be very helpful!

Hello Eskil52, your question is very well formulated and addresses the common issue experienced by many BESTA users. Basically, the hinges in Ikea BESTA systems are designed for fine adjustment, but over time, especially with frequent use, they can loosen or the doors may sag. I recommend the following steps:

- First, tighten all the screws on the hinges and the cabinet frame firmly. Sometimes they loosen slightly through regular use.
- Check the hinge adjustments carefully again. Most hinges offer three different adjustment options (side-to-side, depth, height). A combination of these usually helps to align the doors more precisely.
- If the doors continue to shift, you can try using small self-adhesive hinge dampers or rubber buffers to prevent further swinging.
- Alternatively, some users suggest attaching small metal brackets or additional fasteners on the inside of the cabinet to mechanically secure the doors better.

If you like, I can explain in more detail how to carry out these adjustments.

Exactly, to keep the doors of Ikea BESTA permanently aligned, precise hinge adjustment is essential. If the doors still sag or shift despite correct adjustment, it is usually due to one of the following reasons:

- Material fatigue of the hinges or the door material
- Loose connection points on the cabinet frame
- Stress from excessively heavy contents inside the cabinet

I would recommend first checking the load on the doors and reducing it if necessary. Additionally, some users have found that occasionally retightening the screws after a few months is effective.

There are also specialized hinge stoppers and magnetic catches, which Ikea sometimes offers separately, that can mechanically reduce the problem. It is also important to always use the correct model of hinges and doors, as there are different versions depending on the BESTA assembly kit.

In short: tighten the screws and precisely adjust the hinges. If that is not sufficient, install rubber buffers. This ensures the doors remain securely fixed in place over time.

To be honest: the Ikea BESTA system is a budget furniture concept that cannot compete with high-quality furniture in terms of durability and longevity. If you really want a lasting solution, simply adjusting the hinges won’t be enough.

My advice: replace the original hinges with better soft-close versions from a specialist retailer or use metal brackets to reinforce the doors and prevent sagging. The system is often simply too lightly constructed to remain practical for everyday use.

In short: if you want good quality over time, you need to look beyond and partially move away from Ikea. This is not a personal criticism, just realism.
