Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while: Is there a way to lock or connect the individual KALLAX units from IKEA so that they are securely and permanently joined together without making the structure unstable or requiring external tools or major modifications? I want to place several units side by side and avoid them sliding apart or shifting, especially when they are loaded or moved. Are there any recommended methods, special connectors, or perhaps even IKEA-certified accessories that can achieve this? I’m looking forward to your experiences and advice!

Hey Lispeo, that’s a great question! 🙂 I simply connected my KALLAX modules using so-called "panel connectors" for furniture panels, which you can get cheaply at hardware stores. You just screw them together from the inside, so they’re not visible from the outside. It’s sturdy yet still flexible in case you want to reconfigure it later. 😉

Yes, you can connect KALLAX units using simple wooden connectors or metal brackets. Exactly. I connected my units that way, and they hold up really well even when moving them around. Just pay a little attention to the details, otherwise they tend to come apart easily. 😎
Additional information: KALLAX units do not come with factory-installed locking mechanisms or connectors that hold the units firmly together. For a stable connection, it is recommended to use furniture fasteners, such as screw connectors, brackets, or flat connectors, which are installed on the inside between the side panels. It is important to plan the placement of the fastening materials before assembly to ensure they do not interfere with usage. For increased stability, mounting the units to the wall can also be advisable.
