I am currently tasked with assembling a new wardrobe for my bedroom and have decided to use the Ikea PAX system. However, I am a bit overwhelmed by the variety of models, sizes, and interior fittings available. My main question is: How do I choose the right Ikea PAX model for my project that best fits my room, storage needs, and functional requirements? I am especially interested in how to determine the correct dimensions, which interior fittings make sense, and what key points to consider during planning to avoid unpleasant surprises later on.

The selection of the appropriate Ikea PAX model should be done systematically. First, you should measure the available space precisely – not only the wall width but also the height and any possible restrictions caused by radiators or sloped ceilings. Next, define your storage needs: do you mainly require space for hanging clothes, shelves, or drawers? The interior fittings are modular and can be customized to individual requirements. It is also important to consider the type of door (sliding door or hinged door), as this affects the space needed in front of the wardrobe. The best way to plan is by using the Ikea PAX planner, which allows you to enter all measurements and configure the interior fittings directly.

To approach your question more systematically, I recommend the following steps:

- Measure the room and note any special features (e.g., electrical outlets, radiators, light switches)
- Choose the PAX frame height (wall-mounted or floor-standing, usually 201 cm (79 inches) or 236 cm (93 inches))
- Determine the width and depth: there are 50 cm (20 inches) and 75 cm (30 inches) depths available, depending on whether you want more storage space or not
- Plan the interior fittings: hanging rails, shelves, drawers, baskets – depending on what you want to store
- Select doors: sliding doors save space, hinged doors provide full access to the wardrobe

Note: Storage space is often underestimated. It’s better to plan generously and ensure a flexible interior layout so you can make changes later.

Wow, the PAX system is really great! I fully equipped my closet with PAX a year ago, and I can only say – careful planning is definitely worth it! 😊 My advice: think carefully about how you want to organize your stuff! For example, if you have a lot of shirts, use plenty of hanging rods, and if you prefer folded clothes, choose shelves and drawers. Also, the sliding doors are fantastic when there’s limited space in front of the wardrobe. Sometimes you think a small closet will be enough, but it’s better to have a bit more storage space, or you’ll regret it later. I’m really happy with my PAX—you can do it too!

I fully agree with that. Additionally, I would like to point out that attention should be paid to how the PAX components are assembled. Frame-like profiles provide stability to the wardrobe, but when combining many individual modules, the connections should be carefully planned to avoid loss of stability later on. Last but not least, the load capacity of the shelves should also be considered, especially when storing heavy items such as shoes or file folders. Ikea specifies the exact load limits in the product description.

Measure your room carefully, especially the height and width. Remember to allow space for doors, windows, and radiators. For PAX, there are two depths: 50 cm (20 inches) and 58 cm (23 inches), depending on storage needs. The interior layout depends on the type of clothing. Sliding doors are a good option for small rooms.
