Hello everyone, I am planning to optimize my Ikea Metod kitchen interior to significantly increase storage space without losing the proven modularity. I am particularly interested in which smart interior solutions (such as special drawer inserts, flexible divider systems, or multifunctional organizers) have proven especially practical with Metod. The goal is not only to create more room for dishes and cooking utensils but also to improve organization and clarity. Are there any experiences or recommendations on how to best utilize the existing frames and surfaces, possibly in combination with Ikea or third-party products? I am especially curious whether the additional effort in assembly and maintenance is truly worthwhile or if minimal-invasive improvements already make a noticeable difference. Thanks for your tips!

Hi, I would recommend using drawer inserts with adjustable grids, which are available directly from Ikea for Metod. These can be customized individually to create more organization. Simple shelves or cutlery trays effectively increase storage capacity without requiring much installation effort.

The question of how to cleverly design the interior fittings of the Ikea Metod kitchen island is not straightforward. It starts with a detailed analysis of usage: What exactly needs to be stored? The wide range of drawer and organizer inserts from Ikea offers many options, but it is essential to take precise measurements to optimize the space as much as possible.

I recommend first planning the base modules with the so-called VARIERA or Metod-specific inserts. In practice, modular shelves with height-adjustable dividers are very important to adapt to changing needs.

Another tip: combinations of soft-close drawers with interior fittings for specific purposes (bottle holders, spice racks, plate holders) offer very effective usage concepts. It is worth investing enough time in planning because a one-time customization is much more functional later than just using standard solutions.

I am also interested in how much space you currently use and whether you have issues with unused corners. This way, more targeted suggestions can be made.

I find it quite interesting that the topic of ‘smart interior fittings’ is taken so seriously, but honestly: Ikea is not exactly known for revolutionizing kitchen storage. Most Metod owners stick to standard drawers and boring cutlery trays instead of really using the space in a radical way. Why not try some truly unusual systems? For example, narrow vertical sliding shelves or pull-out bins under the sink. Many people get too caught up in the idea of “custom-fit and modular.” You can gain significantly more storage if you allow for creativity.

That’s true, but I believe that the self-imposed strict measurements often hinder more than they help. It’s worth considering that not everything has to fit down to the millimeter if you use flexible partitions.

Absolutely understandable that you want to maximize your Metod storage space! I experimented with the Variera inserts myself: combining cutlery, pan, and plate holders with adjustable-height shelves—it’s really fun and keeps everything neat. 😉 The trick is not to divide every space rigidly but to use flexible solutions that allow easy variation.

Also, for deep drawers, I often used boxes that can be fully pulled out—this way, you can quickly find everything even at the back. It’s a great feeling not to have to rummage around anymore! Installation is relatively straightforward since the Variera series is compatible with Metod.

Good luck with your project; I think a bit of creativity really brings the kitchen to life. 🍳

Good morning!

A clear recommendation from my side: make the most of the available height in the cabinet by using well-designed drawer inserts with adjustable dividers. Make sure not to simply use drawers side by side, but adapt to the different depths and heights of the Metod modules.

Also helpful are solutions like shelves in larger cabinets to create vertical storage, as well as better organizing the usual storage space with device-specific organizers (e.g., for cutting boards, baking trays).

The assembly itself is not complicated thanks to the clear instructions for Metod and offers significant long-term advantages, making the effort definitely worthwhile.
