Hello everyone,

I am currently working on optimizing my interior setup and came across the Ikea Besta series. I’m particularly interested in how to best use these furniture modules in corners and niches. Often, these areas have limited space, and traditional rectangular furniture lacks flexible adaptability.

I would like to know what options are available to combine Besta shelves or cabinets in a way that saves space while remaining functional when integrated into corners or niches. Are there tried-and-true combinations or accessories that are especially helpful in these situations? Tips on measuring, securing the units, and making the most of the storage options would also be great.

I have some experience with assembly but want to make sure I get the most out of the series and avoid unnecessary purchases.

Thank you for your ideas and suggestions!

Hello Ediz67,

your question about the optimal use of Ikea Besta units in corners and niches is really sensible, as this type of furniture offers many customization options that can be well utilized with proper planning and attention to detail.

Basically, I recommend first measuring your niche precisely – not only width and height but also depth, including any wall protrusions or radiators. With Besta modules, you can work very flexibly, since there are various widths (e.g., 60, 40, 20cm (24, 16, 8 inches)) and heights available. Corners can be optimally used by combining smaller modules.

A common tip is to create corner solutions using two units side by side, for example 60 x 40cm (24 x 16 inches), placed flush into the corner. This saves space and provides storage on both sides. Even better is using corner shelves or custom-cut surfaces to cover everything as precisely as possible. Unfortunately, Ikea does not offer a special corner module for Besta, but since the modules can be stacked and placed side by side horizontally, you can create creative solutions through careful planning.

Assembly tip: Be sure to secure the units to the wall, especially in tight niches where stability is more difficult due to limited clearance. The included wall mounting sets work well – however, it is advisable to use additional anchors or brackets if you plan to store heavy items on top.

In terms of storage space, you can significantly increase usability by using inner boxes, drawers, or internal pull-outs within the Besta cabinet units. The internal dimensions of the carcass are standardized, so you can also use third-party accessories if Ikea’s own solutions are not sufficient.

One last note: Sometimes it is worth choosing the upper modules slightly less deep than the lower ones – this way you gain clearance space when the niche restricts an escape route.

If you want, feel free to post more details about your niche, and I can provide more targeted advice for your project.

Hello Ediz67,

use smaller Besta modules in corners, for example 40 cm (16 inches) or 20 cm (8 inches) wide, to make better use of the space.

Always use wall mounts, as Besta units are often unstable when placed in corners.

Make sure to match the depth of the modules to the maximum niche depth so that nothing sticks out or gets lost.

Drawers or boxes help to organize the storage space more efficiently.

That’s it in short.

Hi Ediz67,

your question is really valuable, especially since corners are often underestimated. I would first recommend starting with precise measurements, and especially checking the walls for any unevenness, as this makes planning much easier.

I also think this is a very good approach. In my own small niche, I combined two Besta modules of different depths. It is important to make one module shallower than the other to ensure easy access and avoid being blocked in the corner.

I completely agree—primarily for safety reasons. Especially when several modules are combined, instability can occur quickly. Additionally, I covered the top with a custom-cut wood panel, which provides stability and a neat overall appearance.

Maybe you also want to use internal drawers or baskets inside the modules? This maximizes storage space even in deep cabinets, especially in functional furniture like Besta. To conclude, I can only say: take your time with the planning and allow for tolerances, then everything will fit almost like it was custom-made.
