Hello everyone, I have unfortunately damaged some screw holes in my Ikea Pax wardrobe. These are mainly stripped or torn holes in the particleboard where the screws no longer hold properly. My question is: What is the best way to repair these damaged screw holes so the wardrobe stands stable again and the screws have a secure hold? Are there any proven methods or tips specifically for Ikea Pax, which is made from relatively soft material? I would like to avoid replacing entire parts, so I appreciate any advice or solutions that work without too much effort.

Wood glue and wooden dowels or small wooden pieces work best. Clean the holes, apply glue, insert the wood, let it dry, and then screw in again. Alternatively, Moltofill or repair filler can also be used.

For repairing damaged screw holes in Ikea Pax units, I recommend a structured approach:

- First, thoroughly clean the damaged hole to remove dust and loose particles.
- Then, apply wood glue to a wooden or plastic dowel or a toothpick and insert it into the hole.
- After it dries, sand the protruding material flush.
- Finally, reinsert the appropriate screw.

An alternative is to use special furniture repair inserts, which provide a secure hold but are somewhat more labor-intensive.

It is important not to over-tighten the screw to prevent it from stripping again. Since Ikea furniture made from particleboard is often delicate, repairing with wood glue and suitable filler material is usually the best solution.

I am familiar with this issue; it is really frustrating when screws no longer hold, especially with furniture you have assembled yourself. In my experience, carefully filling the old screw holes with wood glue and then reinforcing them with small pieces of toothpicks works well. Patience during drying is important. After that, the screws tend to hold surprisingly well again.

If you are unsure: it is completely normal for these kinds of repairs to be annoying, but with little effort, you can often give the furniture a second chance.

The Ikea Pax construction is based on particleboard and coated surface layers, which makes the material relatively sensitive to repeated screw removals. Stripped screw holes can be repaired most effectively as follows:

- Drill a larger, clean hole,
- Insert a precisely sized wooden dowel with wood glue,
- After complete drying, tighten the dowel with the original or a suitable screw.

It is important to use an appropriate wood glue product with good strength.

Another option is to use repair kits that provide epoxy resin or fillers, which can be applied directly into the hole and simulate material stiffness.

For furniture that is frequently disassembled and reassembled or moved, however, the dowel-and-glue method is more durable. Be sure to allow the glue to dry fully; otherwise, the repair will not hold.

I have had good experience using wood glue and toothpicks. Simply insert a few broken pieces of toothpicks into the hole, add glue, let it dry, and then screw it back in. It holds almost like new.
