Hello everyone, I have a small issue with my IKEA Brimnes drawers. Although they were assembled correctly, the drawers sometimes wobble and don’t feel very stable, especially when fully loaded. My question is: how can I stabilize the IKEA Brimnes drawers so they feel secure and more durable without losing their functionality? I’m also interested in solutions beyond simply tightening the screws, as I have already tried that. Does anyone have tips on reinforcements, additional fastenings, or alternative installation methods? Thanks in advance!

Hi, if I were you, I would check whether the drawer slides are properly engaged. Often, there is movement if the rollers do not run smoothly on the track. Additionally, you can install small metal brackets inside to reinforce the structure.

Hello Deovin, to be precise, a systematic approach is worthwhile to make the Brimnes drawers more stable:
- First, you should completely unscrew all screws and then tighten them properly with a suitable cordless drill with torque control.
- Make sure the drawer bottom cardboard is correctly positioned without any gaps, as this helps with additional load distribution.
- For a permanent stabilization, it is helpful to add extra reinforcements inside, such as small angle brackets or wooden strips that you can screw on with brackets.
- Also, if possible, replace the plastic rollers with high-quality metal rollers. These run much smoother and more stable.
- If you still have the assembly instructions, check the mounting points; perhaps a connector was missing or is not fully flush.
I am curious: Do you mainly use the drawers for clothing or for heavier items? The best stabilization depends on the load.

I recommend lubricating the drawer slides with a few drops of WD-40. Wobbly drawers are often caused by uneven movement. After applying, they usually become more stable and operate more smoothly.

Thank you for the detailed answer! The drawers will mainly be used for clothing and a few heavier items such as shoe boxes. In this case, is it advisable to reinforce the side panels as well, or is stabilizing the drawer slides sufficient? I ask because I prefer not to alter the furniture too much, as I want to keep its appearance as intact as possible.

That’s a good starting point. I would even argue that the drawer slides alone are often not enough, especially with heavier loads. The side panels of Brimnes are relatively thin and made of particleboard, which makes them prone to deformation. Additional reinforcement, for example by attaching strips or metal brackets on the inside, can significantly increase load capacity.

However, you should also check whether the wobbling really comes from the side panels or perhaps more from the lower cross supports or the drawer slides. Sometimes the issue can be resolved with simple measures like reinforcing the bottom edge or even replacing the slides with stronger metal guides.

Have you ever checked the construction for twisted or misaligned parts? That can be a root cause of instability.
