Hello everyone, I am about to assemble my first IKEA Brimnes furniture piece and am looking for a simple, beginner-friendly guide that goes beyond the official instructions. Is there anyone here who can provide a step-by-step explanation or knows of a particularly helpful resource tailored for beginners? I am especially interested in how to complete the assembly as smoothly as possible and avoid common beginner mistakes, since some parts of the manual are not entirely clear to me. Thank you in advance!

Quick reminder: Brimnes has several similar-looking parts. Always compare each part with the instruction manual before assembling. This will save you from having to disassemble later.

Common mistake: tightening screws too early. First, screw them in loosely, then tighten them properly. Otherwise, things often won't fit exactly in the end.

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. Could you also share some advice on installing the back panel? The manual says the back panel should be installed last, but how can I ensure the side panels remain stable during this process? Is there a recommended order to follow?

The back panel of the IKEA Brimnes is actually installed as the final step. The reason for this is that the back panel acts as a form of bracing and properly holds the side panels in place. It is advisable to loosely fasten all screws on the side panels, base panel, and top panel before inserting the back panel. Once the back panel is mounted, you can fully tighten all the screws. Make sure the back panel is straight and centered to avoid any stress. If you tighten the screws too early, the dimensions may shift and the back panel will not fit correctly.

That’s a very good question. I recommend temporarily securing the side panels with some assistance—such as a second person or clever supports like books or boxes—while attaching the back panel. This prevents the structure from shifting. Even if working alone, it helps to loosely fasten the side panels first, then install the back panel, and only afterwards tighten everything fully.

That’s a great tip. When I built my first piece of furniture, I didn’t have a second person either, so I supported the parts with thick books. It worked really well and saved me a lot of stress. Sometimes simple tricks are the best.

Here’s a summary for beginners who want to assemble the IKEA Brimnes as simply and safely as possible:

- Unpack and sort all parts completely; separate the different types of screws
- Check the components again against the instructions before assembly
- Screw all screws in loosely at first; do not tighten anything immediately
- Stabilize the side panels with a tool when inserting the back panel
- Attach the back panel as reinforcement only at the end
- Tighten all screws after mounting the back panel

Following this sequence will help you avoid many common beginner mistakes. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
