pukubaHello everyone, I have a question about optimizing storage space in Ikea Metod tall cabinets, especially when using the flexible interior fittings.
I am interested in how to make the best use of the space when combining different storage options such as shelves, pull-outs, baskets, or inner drawers. What tips do you have for arranging the various modules inside the tall cabinet to maximize the volume efficiently?
Also, I would like to know how the adjustability of the shelves and the installation of inner pull-outs affect the storage of kitchen utensils, supplies, or appliances of different sizes. I often find it challenging to create a smart layout, especially in tall cabinets with significant depth.
I look forward to your recommendations, ideally with advice on what to specifically consider when selecting and assembling the interior fittings to achieve flexible and as individual solutions as possible.

Hey pukuba, really interesting question! The Metod tall cabinets are very versatile, offering plenty of opportunities to optimize! 😃
My tip: definitely combine drawers for smaller items and pantry supplies with open shelves for larger things. This way, you stay flexible and still have everything in view.
-> Try using some internal drawers: they help keep things organized and make great use of the cabinet’s depth.
-> For tall cabinets, consider installing two levels of drawers to make access easier!
And don’t forget: adjustable shelves are invaluable when you need to accommodate different heights, for example, to store large pots or boxes.
Enjoy setting it up!

My tip: Definitely combine drawers for smaller items and supplies with open shelves for larger things. That’s a good approach, but I would like to expand on it and explain in more detail. The Metod tall cabinets are modular, which offers great flexibility but also some challenges, especially regarding interior fittings.
An important point is utilizing the full cabinet depth of about 58 cm (23 inches). Many underestimate how worthwhile deep drawers or sliding shelves are, because standard shelves rarely allow easy access to the back.
The ideal combination includes these elements:
- Telescopic slides on drawers to make full use of the depth
- Use of shelf supports with adjustable holes (rack holes) so shelves can be quickly repositioned in height
- Installation of adjustable internal drawers with grid settings to neatly separate smaller items
- Wire baskets as a useful addition for fruit or other foods that need ventilation
Additionally, it’s wise to consider later usage habits during the planning stage. For example, store heavy appliances at the bottom and lighter items at the top. In tall cabinets, a pull-out bottle rack or a narrow pantry cabinet inside can help keep things organized.
What is your cabinet height and frequency of use? Are you using the cabinet as a pantry or for kitchen utensils?

What is the height of your cabinet and how intensively will you use it? Are you planning to use it as a pantry or for kitchen utensils? To give the best advice, that is actually crucial.
Generally, I would recommend clarifying exactly what you want to store in Metod tall cabinets first. For pantry items, drawers with dividers work well; otherwise, you just end up stacking things and losing overview.
It’s also better to occasionally use inner drawers or flexible baskets with metal bottoms, as these allow quick access and prevent items from getting lost at the back.
What I also suggest: use the supplied flexible rails for the internal configuration. They allow you to easily adjust shelf and drawer positions to accommodate changing needs.
If you need a lot of deep storage space, I also recommend equipping the cabinet with at least two large drawers at the bottom. Above those, adjustable shelves at variable heights work well.
What have you planned for your setup? Do you already have specific modules in mind?
