Hello everyone, I am currently planning the renovation of my kitchen using Ikea Metod cabinets and would like to hide as many visible screws as possible for aesthetic reasons, meaning I want to use concealed fasteners. My main question is: How can I use hidden screws or fasteners with Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets without compromising the stability or functionality of the cabinets? Are there special screws, connectors, or techniques to avoid visible screw heads? I would appreciate any advice on suitable materials, fastening points, or possibly manufacturer-recommended solutions. Information on necessary tools or preparatory steps would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!

With Metod, you can often replace the standard anchors and screws with connecting fittings that are mounted inside. Alternatively, there are cover caps available to conceal the screw heads. A simple trick: don’t tighten the screws all the way, then recess the screw heads and put the cover caps on.

The challenge with Ikea Metod is that the cabinets are designed for easy assembly. By default, Ikea uses fasteners like minifix dowels and metal brackets, which may remain partially visible. However, it is possible to use concealed screws if you choose to add so-called Lamello joints or Lamello clip systems. This requires modifications to the wood or panels, as grooves need to be routed for these.

Another option is to use hidden furniture connectors (e.g., cam connectors without visible heads) and screws that are inserted from the inside of the side panels, such as for side panels or partition walls.

Practically important: Before converting to concealed screw connections, you should carefully check the original dimensions and determine where drilling is possible. Some cabinet models already have holes for dowels or connectors that can be used. Otherwise, you will need to drill new holes. Please work very carefully to maintain load-bearing capacity.

A small tip for screw covers: if you use standard Phillips screws, you can use plastic caps or wood filler for screw heads. This looks clean and is easy to do.

Hello Kulapa,

I would like to help you in more detail.

Ikea Metod cabinets and fronts are designed for easy assembly – usually screws with dowels are combined, which can be clearly visible on the side panels.

If you want to use hidden screws, there are a few things to consider:
- Typically, connectors like cam locks (Minifix) are used in Ikea Metod, which are visible on the sides.
- To hide these, you could order or modify the side panels with wooden dowels or biscuits on the inside, so there are no screw heads visible from the outside.
- Another option is hidden screws with a longer shaft and the appropriate pre-drilled holes from the inside.
- Often, so-called "cam clamps" (clamp fasteners) are used for shelves and joints that do not show visible screws.

A tip: It’s worth studying the assembly instructions carefully and, if necessary, implementing additional joint systems, such as the Lamello P-System. These require special tools (Lamello routers) and some woodworking skills.

Is there a specific place where you want to hide the screws? That way I can give you more targeted advice.

Thank you for your detailed response! Specifically, I want to make the screws on the side panels and between the cabinet carcass and the fronts as invisible as possible. The connection needs to remain sturdy since the cabinets will be fully loaded. I am already familiar with the original fastenings, but the screw heads on the visible side bother me visually. Flexible solutions for mounting the fronts are also important to me, as I might want to replace or retrofit doors later.

Metod cabinets are designed by default so that fasteners such as Minifix cam locks remain easily accessible to allow for future modifications.

If you want to conceal screws on the side panels, I recommend the following options:
- Using concealed furniture connectors with a special drilling template
- Using biscuits with appropriate slot milling
- Supplementing existing fasteners with vertical wooden dowels or corner brackets on the inside

When replacing doors, the original hinges and fastenings are irreplaceable, so it is advisable to keep the original drill holes. Fully covering the screws on the front is not possible with Metod standard parts.

It is important to check the load-bearing capacity of all connections when making changes – the load from fronts and shelves should not be underestimated.
