eddyonHello everyone,
I have been considering getting some furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series for a while now, especially bedroom furniture like wardrobes, under-bed storage drawers, and dressers. My question to the community is: How well do Ikea Brimnes pieces hold up for daily use when you value stability, durability, and functionality?
I am particularly interested in how sturdy the materials are with frequent use and how well the drawers or doors continue to operate after several years. Are there common weak points or things to be aware of before buying?
I appreciate any honest feedback—especially from those with experience using Brimnes furniture over a longer period.

How good are Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces for daily use if you value stability, durability, and functionality?I have been using Brimnes dressers for about three years now, and to be honest, I initially had some doubts about their durability. However, the furniture holds up well as long as it’s not overloaded.
The material is not solid wood but MDF with a foil coating, which you can noticeably feel—especially on the edges. After such a long time, the drawer slides tend to wear down a bit, which sometimes requires occasional adjustments, but it’s nothing serious.
What personally annoys me a bit are the door hinges. They can sometimes produce a creaking sound when the room experiences significant changes in humidity.
Overall, I can only say this: for the price, you get a stylish, functional piece of furniture that works well with normal daily care, but you can’t really compare it to furniture made from solid wood.
I would like to add that with Brimnes, the main advantage is the value for money.
- The stability is adequate for light to moderate loads. Therefore, heavy items should not be stored permanently in the drawers.
- Assembly is relatively straightforward, but it is important to follow the instructions carefully, as incorrect assembly can significantly reduce stability.
- For households with children or frequent rearranging, I recommend regularly checking the furniture’s screws for tightness during use.
- If moisture sensitivity is a concern, I suggest avoiding placing Brimnes furniture, especially bedroom pieces, in very damp rooms.
The furniture is suitable for everyday use as long as clear limits on usage are observed and the materials are properly maintained.

Regarding the technical details: The carcass panels are made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a melamine finish. These materials offer cost-effective manufacturing and sufficient stability for normal use but are susceptible to moisture exposure and mechanical damage at the edges.
- The fasteners are mostly metal screws and dowels, which allow for a stable construction when properly assembled.
- Load limits for the drawers are around 10–15 kg (22–33 lbs) per drawer, according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- The drawer slides use plastic runners, which reduce noise but may show wear over time.
In summary: Brimnes furniture is designed for everyday use but does not claim high-end durability. Careful handling is essential for longevity.

Brimnes furniture is designed for everyday use but does not claim high-end durability.I can confirm that from my experience. I have had a Brimnes wardrobe for two years, and it still looks good, but the drawers are still a bit stiff. That was fine for me because I didn’t find it bothersome.
At first, I was worried that the laminate would peel off quickly, but so far that hasn’t happened. The only issue is that the back panels can start to warp over time, especially if you move frequently.
Overall, I would recommend Brimnes for people looking for an affordable option and who don’t necessarily need the most durable piece of furniture. It has served me well, but for a long-term solution, I might look elsewhere.
