Hello everyone, I am planning a larger Ikea Besta project for storage and organization, which includes several modules and therefore requires a certain load capacity and stability. My question to the community is: From your experience, which furniture connectors work best for larger Besta configurations? I am especially interested in connectors that provide long-term stability and can handle heavier weight, and that are ideally easy to assemble. Are there any specific connectors you would recommend, perhaps in addition to the ones provided by IKEA? I look forward to your tips and advice!

I understand the feeling when starting a bigger project and hoping everything stays stable – it can be quite stressful. In my opinion, it’s important to use sturdy angle brackets, preferably metal ones with multiple screw holes to firmly anchor the modules together. Especially with larger Besta combinations, it can help to connect the individual shelves with additional connector plates to prevent any shifting.

That’s a really good question. For my own Besta project, I also used screw connectors specifically designed for Besta. This way, you can easily disassemble the parts if needed, but everything still holds very securely. This is especially helpful when the furniture is meant to carry weight.

Use sturdy metal brackets with multiple screws. The Ikea Besta connectors alone are often not sufficient for large projects. In addition to brackets, you can use elongated flat connectors that can be attached at the back. This provides significantly more stability.

Hello Sueliane, I’d like to give a more detailed answer to your question, as there are indeed some important points regarding stability with larger Ikea Besta projects.

First of all, the dowels and screws provided with Besta are designed for standard configurations. If you plan larger and heavier constructions, I recommend the following:

- In addition to the standard connectors, use sturdy metal brackets, preferably with a leg length of 50mm (2 inches) or more, to securely join the individual modules.
- Use flat connectors or so-called furniture plate connectors, which are placed inside the corners and stabilize the connections without being visible from the outside.
- For optimal load distribution, it is also advisable to attach the Besta modules directly to the wall. Here you can use strong angle rails or wall-mounting kits from Ikea or third-party suppliers.

This is an important point that I can support as well. Special screw connectors for Besta make disassembly easier without compromising stability.

If you like, I can also give you some recommendations on where to source them or which screw lengths are suitable.

Simple recipe: Use metal angle brackets and, if necessary, supplement with flat connectors. The original Besta connectors are designed for lightweight modules. For larger projects, only sturdy metal hardware will do.

I can understand wanting to feel secure with such a large Besta project. It was similar for me since I was also planning it for a lot of storage and heavy items. What helped me was not relying solely on the standard connectors but also using additional metal brackets and the like, as some have already mentioned. Also, make sure to anchor the modules firmly to the wall, which adds an extra sense of security.

I’d be interested to hear that too. Sometimes you see the right connectors but not exactly how and with what to best screw them together.
