I am currently planning a kitchen renovation at home and have been looking closely into the IKEA METOD tall cabinets. What interests me most is how I can efficiently increase and make better use of the existing storage space in these tall cabinets with smart systems.
I am particularly curious about practical and realistically implementable solutions to make deeper or higher sections of the tall cabinets easily accessible and well organized. For example, I have heard about pull-outs, internal drawers, baskets, railing systems, or different shelves that help create more order and storage space, but I wonder which combinations really work well and why.
Are there perhaps any special tips for corners or hard-to-reach spots that are often overlooked?
I look forward to your experiences and examples with specific systems or add-ons for IKEA METOD tall cabinets that noticeably improve storage space in practice.
Thank you in advance!

What I’m particularly interested in is how I can efficiently increase and better utilize the existing storage space in the tall cabinets using clever systems.Basically, the idea is good, but I wonder: What exactly do you mean by "clever systems"? With IKEA METOD, the options are quite broad – from simple shelves to complex pull-out organizers.
You should critically consider whether these additions really increase storage capacity or mainly just make access more convenient. Because the pure volume gain from built-in systems is often limited if the cabinet is already fully packed.
Also, it’s worth looking into alternative solutions outside the IKEA range if you have specific sizes or requirements.
So, it would be interesting to know: What cabinet size are you planning? And what kind of items do you want to store there? Without this information, the question is a bit too general for concrete recommendations.

What cabinet size are you planning? And what type of items do you want to store there?I would like to add that, especially for METOD tall cabinets, IKEA’s range of options is very well suited to different uses. There are pull-outs available in various heights—10 cm (4 inches), 20 cm (8 inches), 40 cm (16 inches), and 60 cm (24 inches)—so you can configure according to your storage needs.
For large and heavy pots, sturdy full-extension drawers are recommended, allowing full access to the contents. For food items, swing doors with internal shelving systems are ideal, making everything visible without stacking.
Additionally, internal pull-outs in tall cabinets are a good solution for deep cabinets because they maximize storage space and improve visibility.
For corners or hard-to-reach areas, corner pull-outs or specialized carousels can be chosen, which for METOD are usually sold as accessory systems.
To better organize the cabinets, you can add dividers, labels, or small boxes to customize the storage space.
If you have specific ideas about which items you want to store, I can provide more targeted advice on suitable systems.

I am particularly interested in practical and realistically implementable solutions to make deeper or higher areas in tall cabinets optimally accessible and organized.Hey, this topic is really interesting! A few months ago, I upgraded my METOD tall cabinet with a combination of pull-out shelves and adjustable racks, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results!
It’s important to stay flexible because storage needs often change. For deeper areas, I mainly installed pull-out drawers that are fully extendable and, with their low height, work great for items stacked deep inside.
In addition, I mounted a 3-rail system (for lids and cutting boards) on the inside of the doors—super practical since these spots would otherwise be wasted space.
I also recommend using larger storage baskets in the upper sections of the tall cabinets for items you rarely need. This way, everything is neatly stored but still easily accessible.
Just give the different METOD accessory products that IKEA offers under “Innredning” a try—you often don’t consider all the options at first. Good luck, it’s definitely worth the effort!

Are there any special tips for corners or hard-to-reach spots that are often overlooked? Here is a structured approach to maximizing storage space in IKEA METOD tall cabinets using smart systems:
- Prioritize cabinet use based on how often items are needed. Frequently used items should be easily accessible (e.g., in drawers at waist height).
- Use internal drawers and full-extension slides to make the back areas of the cabinet fully accessible.
- For tall and upper areas, large baskets or bins that can be pulled out when needed work well.
- Utilize door interior systems such as rails, knife holders, or small shelves to avoid wasting space on the inside of the doors.
- Accessories like drawer inserts allow sorting of small items, making them easier to find and preventing clutter.
Regarding particularly hard-to-reach corners:
- For blind corners or niches, special carousel pull-outs (lazy susans) can be installed. These significantly increase usable space.
- Alternatively, drawers with double-extension functionality are useful to pull items out even from deeper cabinet areas.
Finally, it should be noted that with proper planning and combination of the official IKEA METOD components, you can optimize space without needing external accessories. For corners, accurate measurements, including door opening clearances, are recommended.
For any project, it is always advisable to create a plan with detailed measurements and test different elements using the IKEA website planner.
