Hello everyone, I am planning to furnish my office with IKEA Platsa furniture and want to customize it as much as possible to create a workspace that is not only functional but also visually appealing. I am especially interested in tips and tricks on how to creatively modify or enhance the Platsa units—such as through color design, additional built-ins, or technical adjustments. Does anyone have experience adapting or even expanding Platsa furniture in a practical and personalized way for an office, without it becoming too complicated or expensive? I look forward to your ideas and suggestions!

Well, I think Platsa is great in general if you really embrace the DIY approach. A classic method is swapping the standard fronts with painted or wrapped panels. Some say it looks fake, but I see it as creative freedom to make the furniture unique. A bit of decorative film or a hand-painted design? Perfect!

Also, I believe it’s good to be bold: install open shelf units above head height without doors, where you can add lighting or plants – this often helps to soften the sterile office feel. But be careful not to overcrowd, or it’ll get chaotic quickly.

Interesting approach – but does it work well in practice, or does it require professional repainting? Because cheaper films or paints can quickly look untidy.

For an office, it’s important to me that the furniture is not only personalized but also durable. Do you think a DIY finish will hold up under regular use? Or would it make more sense to combine Platsa modularly with other systems (like Offerte, or a drawer unit)?

I’m asking because I believe that flexibility and the ability to integrate with existing office furniture are often more important than just focusing on aesthetics.

To explore the topic in more detail: Platsa is basically modular and works well with other interior elements. For a custom office setup, I would suggest, for example,

- Removing doors and side panels and upgrading them with a matte or glossy finish, ideally using water-based spray paints.
- Installing interior lighting. LED strips along the upper frame work well and can be powered via USB or a power adapter.
- Using shelves not only for storage but also as a base for built-in charging stations or monitor mounts. There are simple DIY kits available that can be screwed onto the cabinet structure.

A small tip: If you want to experiment with exact dimensions and workspace layout, it’s best to create a digital model or floor plan to simulate how different combinations will look.

Also important: Consider how much weight the shelves need to support in order to plan appropriate reinforcements.

I would replace doors with glass doors. This makes the cabinet feel lighter and more modern. Inside, you can use boxes for organization. Wheels are also helpful if you want to move the shelf.

For a structured and personalized design of Platsa in the office, I recommend the following points:

- Replace the standard fronts with custom-sized carcass elements made from thin plywood panels, painted in office-appropriate colors.
- Integrate cable management systems recessed into the back panel.
- Combine with ergonomic accessories, such as height-adjustable worktops for alternating sitting and standing workstations.
- Use suitable inserts and internal drawers from IKEA that fit exactly into the Platsa system.

These options ensure functionality and offer personalized design possibilities without much extra effort or unnecessary costs.
