SaulauHello everyone,
I have an Ikea Metod tall cabinet in my kitchen, which I currently use mainly for storing pantry items and dishes. However, I’ve noticed that the storage space is not used optimally and clutter tends to build up quickly. Therefore, I’m looking for smart organization concepts and accessories that can maximize and structure the storage space in these tall cabinets—whether through inserts, additional pull-outs, special containers, or similar solutions.
It’s important to me that the solution not only increases capacity but also improves visibility and easy accessibility. Does anyone have experience with practical add-ons specifically for Ikea Metod tall cabinets? Are there any tips for storing larger or bulkier items without having to completely remodel the cabinet?
I look forward to your suggestions and experiences!

JEREMIAH3828 Jul 2020 10:29I can fully understand how frustrating it can be when storage space isn’t used efficiently.
What helped me a lot were mainly pull-out inserts that can be integrated into tall cabinets. They make accessing much easier, especially when the cabinets are very deep. Stackable boxes with transparent fronts are also great because you don’t have to take everything out all the time to find something.
That hits the nail on the head. Sometimes less is more if it keeps things more organized. I also used small labels so everyone in the household can immediately see where things are stored – it saves a lot of time and frustration.

Pull-out pantry units as built-in solutionsThat sounds interesting – do you have examples or tips on whether they can be installed by yourself without much specialized tools? Also, are pull-out pantry units suitable for heavier items?
I would like to add a few points:
- Apothecary drawers are indeed very suitable for creating centralized, slim storage spaces. They are particularly practical for spices, small pantry items, or cleaning supplies.
- For heavier or bulkier items, I recommend using sturdy metal drawers with a soft-close function, which are available from Ikea itself or specialized suppliers.
- It is worthwhile to divide the interior of tall cabinets into zones – lighter items on top, heavier ones at the bottom; pull-outs inside for small parts, with fixed shelves behind for larger objects.
Combining different systems makes optimal use of space while ensuring clarity and load capacity. Additionally, careful installation should be ensured, as increased use results in greater stress on the fittings.

PECLARISSA30 Jul 2020 11:23I believe it’s okay to approach things with a bit of creativity. For example:
- Use baskets or boxes in various sizes that can be removed and rearranged.
- Magnetic strips on the inside of doors – perfect for storing small metal items or kitchen tools.
- Flexible dividers to customize tall cabinets and prevent clutter.
I recommend reserving the lower sections for large items and keeping sturdy inserts or open storage space there. This way, your big items are safe but still easily accessible. Sometimes simple stackable boxes are enough instead of expensive built-ins to stay organized and flexible.
And don’t forget to have a little fun with it – organizing becomes much more enjoyable that way!
