Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Besta shelving unit with drawers and now want to organize the drawers in a practical and personalized way. My question is: What options are there to create compartments in the IKEA BESTA drawers to neatly and clearly store various items such as utensils, cables, or small tools? I am particularly interested in practical, flexible solutions that allow the compartments to be easily adjusted or expanded. Are there any proven DIY methods, recommended divider systems, or creative tips that you use? I look forward to your advice and experiences!
Here is a well-tested approach for customizing Besta drawers with dividers:
1. Measurement: Not only the drawer size but also the maximum available height for the items is important.
2. Create a base plan: Draw a grid-like layout for the internal division on millimeter paper, also considering the idea of placing small boxes inside later.
3. Gather materials: Plastic boxes, wooden slats, or suitable dividers that you can use.
4. Assembly: If working with wood, glue or small screws are recommended, but if you want to stay flexible, modular systems are better.
Tip: Removable organizer boxes are useful for small items and can also be used separately as “mini-drawers.”

This thread is really interesting! 😁 I completely agree with Wesley; I also really like these flexible plastic dividers. For my BESTA drawers, I like to use bento boxes as organizers. Everything fits nicely side by side, and it offers a certain modularity.
I have also experimented with small hook-and-loop mats to keep the boxes from shifting when opening the drawer. It works surprisingly well and keeps the contents together. It also looks neat and has that little DIY hack charm.

Hello everyone! I find your suggestions really motivating! 🙂 I have organized my IKEA BESTA drawers with stackable plastic boxes of various sizes from the hardware store. This works great because you can easily take out and swap the boxes as needed. I also added colored labels, which help me quickly find things.
Don’t underestimate the satisfaction of having everything fit perfectly and being able to see where everything is as soon as you open the drawer. So don’t overthink it – just try it out and adjust as you go!

Note: Make sure the compartments are not too tall to allow full use of the drawer depth. A very important point that cannot be emphasized enough. Drawers are often overfilled, and then some items no longer fit properly when putting them in or taking them out. I recommend carefully checking the maximum height of the dividers before planning and taking into account the shelf or drawer height with selectable inserts.

I am somewhat skeptical whether the usual compartments, especially those with fixed partitions, are often too rigid. I completely agree! That’s exactly why I like these flexible organizers so much – they make customizing easy and even enjoyable! 😄

You shouldn’t underestimate the joy when everything fits perfectly and you can see right away where everything is when you open the drawer. Exactly. Good organization really improves quality of life!
One last quick tip: If you don’t have the time or desire to build your own, it’s worth checking out pre-made drawer inserts designed specifically for IKEA furniture. They can be a bit more expensive, but they fit perfectly and provide instant organization. However, for DIY enthusiasts like those here in the forum, I can definitely recommend homemade solutions.
