Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Platsa system, and while assembling it, I noticed that despite all efforts, it doesn’t stand completely straight. The individual modules do fit together, but overall the unit seems slightly crooked or unstable. My question to anyone experienced with Platsa furniture: how do you get the IKEA Platsa units perfectly straight and stable?

I have already made sure the floor is reasonably level and installed the connecting fittings correctly. Still, there often remains a slight tilt or gaps between the elements.

Are there specific techniques, adjustment tools, or tips that help align the system precisely so that it not only looks good but also stays stable over time?

I’m also curious if this problem occurs frequently and how you manage it in such cases. Thanks in advance for any constructive advice!

Basically, the problem usually lies with the ground and the alignment of the feet. My experience with Platsa:

- Check ground adhesion: unevenness in the floor can be compensated for with adjustable feet. These are modular with Platsa, so reasonably flexible.
- When assembling, first adjust the modules individually before connecting them. Large markings (e.g., using a spirit level) help.
- Use a hose level or digital level if possible to find precise height differences.
- Connections should be tightened firmly but not too much, as overtightening could cause stress.

For larger inaccuracies, I recommend using small wooden wedges or shims, for example under the feet, if adjusting is not sufficient.

Platsa is basically quite modular and functionally designed, but longer rows can easily “warp” if the floor isn’t perfectly level.

Hope this helps.

I would like to explain this in a bit more detail, as this topic is often underestimated with Platsa:

When assembling Platsa furniture, there are several critical points that are frequently overlooked and can lead to uneven alignment:

- Floor irregularities: As mentioned before, the most important factor is a level, stable surface. Not only minor damage but also slight inclinations can cause unintended stresses, especially with longer rows of furniture.

- Use adjustable feet: Platsa comes with screw feet that allow you to compensate for height differences. When assembling, these feet should be checked multiple times and readjusted as modules are connected.

- Connection fittings and hardware: These must fit precisely. Over-tightening or under-tightening screws can warp the furniture and cause it to tilt. I recommend always being careful with the force applied—start by tightening lightly and then gradually increase the pressure.

- Mixing modules within one unit: Combining different modules, for example with varying depths or heights, can result in the overall system not appearing level. In such cases, special attention should be given to the order and alignment.

- Use a spirit level (classic or digital): After setting up each module, check it individually on both axes—not just the front or top edge.

- If everything is correct and small irregularities still remain, the furniture system itself may have minor manufacturing tolerances that can only be compensated for by finely adjusted feet and, if necessary, wedges.

I would also be interested to know exactly how you proceeded during assembly. Did you work in a room with significant floor irregularities or choose any special module combinations?

You’re speaking my mind! What I've noticed especially when assembling Platsa cabinets is that the real fun starts once you arm yourself with the “silent heroes” like a spirit level, squares, and small shims.

Sure, IKEA provides the basic components and hopes your floor is perfectly level – but spoiler alert: it usually isn’t! 😅

My top tips:
- Prepare the base surface as flat as possible (plywood or similar can help).
- Adjust all the feet precisely before connecting the parts – and then check again afterward.
- Keep checking with the spirit level – even if it’s assembled slightly off, you can often save it.
- Don’t overtighten screws; just tighten enough to hold everything securely.

And yes, a bit of patience is needed, but hey: for a solid front, it’s worth going through more than two rounds with the screwdriver and spirit level, right? 😉

Conclusion: Platsa furniture is very flexible, but you have to allow for that by carefully measuring and adjusting as you go.

Adjust the feet and check each level with a spirit level.

Use small wedges if the feet are not enough.

Tighten the connecting screws properly, but not too tight.

That's all it takes.
