Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I assembled a kitchen using IKEA Metod cabinets, but I have increasingly encountered the problem that the doors and drawers of the Metod units have warped. The deformations are mostly visible at the edges and sometimes in the middle, which causes them not to close properly or to be misaligned.
My question is: How can warped IKEA Metod doors and drawers be effectively repaired? Are there specific tools or techniques to straighten the warping without damaging the surface or having to replace the door/drawer completely? I have seen that some people lightly treat the edges with heat or adjust them, but I want to avoid making any mistakes.
Perhaps someone here has experience or tips on how to fix such damage with minimal effort—whether you are a beginner or more advanced in DIY skills.
Thank you in advance for your feedback!

To straighten the doors, you can try gently warming them with a hairdryer and then carefully reshaping them. Make sure the heat is not too high, as this can damage the surface. Afterwards, allow them to cool down thoroughly. For more severe warping, replacement is often the only effective solution.
Hello Saupu,
I understand your problem very well, as warped doors in IKEA Metod cabinets are unfortunately quite common, especially with higher-quality fronts made from thinner panels. Basically, it depends on the material—whether it is lacquer, foil, or wood.
A proven method is gently heating the door with a hairdryer, as nepeo66 has already described. It is important to keep the doors straight while heating and, if possible, clamp them to the cabinet’s back panel frame to keep their shape. Only then will the shape be maintained.
Alternatively, you can remove the warped door and place it in as straight a position as possible for a few days, for example, between two flat boards. Patience is required here—depending on the severity of the warp, this can take several days.
I also recommend checking the hinges and fastenings and adjusting them if necessary, as incorrect settings can cause similar issues. If you have any further questions about the technique or materials, feel free to ask!

I would definitely recommend a combination of using a hairdryer plus adjusting the hinges. Once the door is aligned properly, you can be really proud of yourself.
And remember, it can even be fun – turning a problem into a DIY project! Good luck!

As an addition: When working with Metod doors, the wood moisture content must also be considered. Fluctuations in indoor climate can promote warping. If the deformations are very pronounced, it is advisable to store the fronts temporarily in a humid environment and then dry them under pressure to realign the wood fibers.
For particularly valuable fronts, purchasing a clamping frame or a solid base is worthwhile to evenly press the doors during the drying process.
The mentioned heat methods can be effective, but should be used with caution, as surface damage is common if the temperature gets too high.
This method, however, requires at least a basic understanding of the material and its moisture absorption.

Speaking of enjoying work: it’s better to invest a bit of time than to keep complaining about the squeaky, misaligned door. And hey, who knows, you might even discover a new passion along the way! 😉
