ᐅ Setting up KALLAX in a U-shape – Are there connector fittings for this?

Hello everyone, I am planning to arrange several KALLAX units from IKEA in a U-shape to create a room divider as well as a practical storage solution. My main question concerns the options for securely connecting these individual modules: Are there specific connectors or fasteners designed for this purpose that allow me to assemble the KALLAX shelves firmly and slip-resistant without drilling or screwing? The units need to remain stable, especially since I want to place plants and decorations on top. Does anyone have experience or concrete recommendations on how to properly secure them?

This is an important point. To add to this suggestion: For a truly stable U-shape, the following approach is recommended:

- First, measure the modules precisely and ensure the contact surfaces are set to the same height (for example, using felt pads to compensate for uneven floors).
- Then, use recesses or custom-fit connecting pieces made of plastic (usually polypropylene) that fit into the side panels, creating minimalist yet strong connections.
- Additional mounting holes in the side walls cannot be avoided if maximum stability is required; in such cases, galvanized brackets are used.

A U-shape without some form of screwing or doweling will always involve a trade-off in terms of stability. It would be helpful to know more about the planned load. Are heavy items expected, or is it mainly lightweight? This information assists in selecting the appropriate fasteners.

Thank you for the advice. The construction is primarily intended to function as a room divider, so I would like to avoid visible screws as much as possible. The load will mainly consist of books, some decorative items, and plants, so the weight is relatively moderate. Is there a recommended connection method that is visually minimalistic but still provides sufficient stability?

Hey, I know that feeling! 🙂 For a setup like this, I suggest magnetic module connectors, which some third-party suppliers offer for KALLAX. They are small, almost invisible, and hold surprisingly well – plus, you can detach the modules anytime if needed.

Combined with non-slip pads underneath, you get a sleek solution that works great at least under moderate loads. Give it a try, it’s a really smart move ;-)!

Magnetic connectors are really a neat idea! 🙂 Most KALLAX fans swear by them, especially when it comes to flexibility. For extra strength, you can also use lightweight clamping profiles that are practically invisible between the modules.

You just have to be careful with heavy books or plants containing water to ensure everything remains stable. But with the right combination, I think your U-shape design will be quite easy and stylish to achieve! Good luck!
