Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea PAX wardrobe in a room with a sloped ceiling and have come across some challenges that I would like to clarify beforehand, as a stable and precise installation is important to me.
The slope of the ceiling is quite steep, and I am especially wondering about the best approach for installation to optimally adapt the PAX wardrobe—particularly regarding the top finishing trims and wardrobe doors, which are actually designed for straight walls.
I am also interested to know if there are any recommended modifications or special components from Ikea or third parties that could make the wardrobe truly functional and attractive in such a space without losing too much floor area or appearing unstable.
Does anyone have experience assembling PAX wardrobes on sloped ceilings and can offer tips on installation, possible trimming of the panels, or door adjustments? I would also appreciate advice on what to pay attention to when securing the wardrobe, especially concerning stability with angled ceilings.
Thank you for your support!

Hello,
the best approach is to install the PAX wardrobe flush with the floor and then cut a finishing trim at an angle for the top. The doors can often be left as they are if the wardrobe doesn’t reach all the way up to the sloped ceiling.
For stability, it is essential to anchor it to the wall, preferably using special anchors designed for sloped ceilings, as the walls can sometimes be thinner.
Cutting the cladding is best done with a jigsaw or a sharp utility knife.

Hello LISLEN,
I am happy to provide you with a detailed guide on how to install your Ikea PAX wardrobe in rooms with sloped ceilings.
1. Preparation:
- Be sure to measure the height at several points, as a sloped ceiling is rarely perfectly even.
- Decide whether you want the wardrobe completely under the slope or only partially.
2. Assembling the main components:
- Simply place the PAX frame on the floor, using the lowest point of the sloped ceiling as your height reference.
- Make sure the wardrobe stands firmly—often you will need an additional wooden board under the feet if the floor is uneven.
3. Adjusting the panels:
- Above the frame, you can install a sloped ceiling finishing panel; this panel should be cut at an angle matching the slope using a jigsaw.
- Although Ikea does not offer special adaptations, wooden panels or trim from hardware stores fit well as transitions.
4. Doors and hinges:
- Standard PAX doors usually can stay as is, provided the wardrobe doesn’t reach all the way up to the slope. If it does, doors may need to be shortened, which is a more complex task.
5. Securing the wardrobe:
- Be sure to anchor the wardrobe to the wall. Sloped walls can sometimes be less structurally sound, so carefully check your choice of wall plugs/anchors.
Common mistakes are:
- Inaccurate measurement of the slope (wrong angles)
- Unstable wardrobe base (not level)
- Missing wall anchoring
Conclusion: With careful measurements and patience, assembly works very well. If you need further details on cutting the panels or fitting the doors, feel free to ask.

Conclusion: With careful measurements and a lot of patience, the assembly works very well.I agree with that but would like to point out that some general recommendations can be too simplistic.
Simply placing it at the bottom and adding a slanted trim piece at the top is often not enough, as the structural load on the cabinet can be different due to the roof slope.
Therefore, I strongly recommend thoroughly checking the wall condition before installation and, if possible, securing the structure with additional brackets attached to the rafters, if accessible. Standard wall plugs are not always sufficient here, especially when the cabinet exerts pressure on multiple levels.

Do you have any documentation for this? Because conventional wall plugs often aren’t enough if the wall is insulated or only covered with drywall.
Without this critical check of the fastening method, I see a risk of tipping or breakage points, since cabinets like PAX tend to be heavily loaded. A simple angled trim cut is therefore not sufficient—you have to consider the structural mechanics.
