Hello everyone,

I am currently working on repairing some Ikea Hemnes furniture pieces, mainly dressers and nightstands. I have noticed that the included connectors and screws are sometimes no longer sufficient for repairs or are damaged. Therefore, my specific question is: Which repair kits are currently available for Ikea Hemnes furniture, especially for the most common models like the Hemnes dresser or Hemnes nightstand?

I am interested not only in connection kits but also in replacement parts such as screws, wooden dowels, furniture knobs, or possibly special ferrule or pin connectors used by Ikea.

If anyone has experience with original or third-party repair solutions, I would appreciate any advice, particularly regarding the durability of these repairs and whether Ikea offers official kits.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

There are no official repair kits for Ikea Hemnes furniture from Ikea. Replacement screws and wooden dowels can usually be purchased at hardware stores.

Some third-party suppliers offer complete kits that typically include screws, dowels, and small tools.

For furniture knobs, you can order replacements directly from Ikea.

Hello,

to answer your question in more detail: Ikea does not explicitly sell complete repair kits for Hemnes furniture, unlike some other furniture brands. This is mainly because Hemnes pieces are built primarily using traditional screw joints, wooden dowels, metal reinforcements, and larger wooden components, which can be relatively easily replaced individually.

Technically, the following replacement parts are especially relevant:
- Wooden dowels (Ø 8 mm (0.3 inch), length varies depending on the furniture piece)
- Furniture connectors with wing nuts (often needed because they can loosen)
- Screws (wood screws, 4 to 5 mm (0.15 to 0.2 inch) diameter, length approx. 30–50 mm (1.2–2 inches))
- Furniture knobs (quite typical in Hemnes design, can be obtained from Ikea as replacements)

The best place to get these replacements is usually hardware stores (such as Lidl, Obi, Hornbach) for screws and dowels, directly from Ikea for knobs and sometimes larger spare parts like drawer slides.

Special repair kits from third-party suppliers are available, but you should check carefully what is included – usually, these are general sets that fit wooden furniture in general, but do not cover Ikea-specific features, such as plastic connectors, which are rather rare in Hemnes.

Of course, care is needed during repairs: if the correct dowel is missing, the stability of the furniture can easily be compromised. It is best to measure the exact dimensions beforehand, select high-quality dowels and screws deliberately, and proceed step by step.

Do you have a specific issue with a Hemnes dresser? Which part is damaged?

Thank you for your detailed reply!

Specifically, it concerns a 6-drawer Hemnes dresser where some of the drawer side panels have partially come loose, and in one spot the wooden dowel has broken out. Although the drawer front is still in place, the sliding mechanism feels unstable.

Additionally, on a nightstand, the furniture screw holding the handle is rusted and is coming loose. I often see this as a weak point, especially on frequently used drawers.

The idea would be to have a set that includes dowel kits, matching screws, and optional knob handles to repair everything at once—especially when you don’t want to analyze each part individually.

Are there such sets from third-party suppliers specifically designed for Hemnes, or are repair kits usually more universal for wooden furniture?

As far as documented and verified, there are no specialized third-party sets tailored specifically for the Hemnes product line. The Hemnes series largely relies on standardized joining methods commonly used in the wooden furniture industry.

It is advisable to use universal repair kits that include:
- Wood dowels in various sizes
- Furniture connectors (including wing nuts and fittings)
- Repair screws made of galvanized steel
- Furniture handles in various standard shapes

The key is to know the exact dimensions and the wood material (mostly solid pine) to properly repair any damage.

For handles, it is recommended to use replacement parts directly from Ikea, as other manufacturers often do not match the drill hole spacing, which can cause installation issues.

I also suggest paying attention to refinishing connected surfaces on older furniture: wood glue combined with dowels often restores lost stability.

Hey, that sounds like quite a puzzle! 😅 Hemnes is definitely a classic, but finding the right parts for repairs isn’t always easy.

I once tried to find an all-in-one set like that – spoiler: it didn’t exist! The good news is that most Hemnes furniture is built solidly, and if you get some standard wood dowels (8mm (0.3 inches)), furniture connectors, and good quality screws, you can fix a lot on your own.

As for the knob handles, honestly: Hemnes handles are really stylish. I simply bought the original replacements, which is the cleanest solution in the long run. Sometimes it’s worth taking a bit of time so everything fits perfectly and works like new.

Maybe you could put together your own kit, like a little “Hemnes survival kit” for repairs? That’s kind of cool, right? 😉
