Hello everyone, I’m currently working on maintaining our IKEA Hemnes furniture and wondering which replacement parts are most commonly needed for this series. I’m particularly interested in whether there are typical weak points to watch out for during use, and if there are specific replacement components for Hemnes that need to be changed more often than others. Has anyone had experience with broken or worn parts on Hemnes furniture, such as beds, wardrobes, or dressers? I’m also curious about the availability and quality of the replacement parts – are they easy to order and install, or rather difficult to handle? It’s important for me to extend the furniture’s lifespan through targeted replacement without having to buy new pieces completely. Thanks for your helpful tips!

The most common replacement parts for Hemnes are the sliding rollers and the connecting screws. They rarely break but are usually the cause of wobbly furniture. Replacement parts are easily available from IKEA.

I think it is important to analyze the general construction of Hemnes when discussing spare parts. Hemnes uses a lot of solid wood, which is durable but also sensitive to moisture and mechanical stress. Therefore, it is obvious that joints and fittings are most affected because wood can warp and screws can loosen.

This explains why screws, fasteners, and drawer runners need to be replaced most often.

It also seems that IKEA uses rather standardized spare parts for Hemnes, which simplifies procurement. However, when ordering, it is important to pay close attention to the item number, as there can be differences between drawer runners from different models and production years.

Anyone who wants to order spare parts should also check if there are compatible alternative products, especially for the drawer slides. Official sources are usually the safest option.

Do you have specific Hemnes furniture pieces that have caused problems?

Thank you for the detailed response, it helps a lot. Specifically, I am dealing with a Hemnes bedroom set, including the bed, nightstands, and dresser. I have already noticed that some screws on the bed are loose, causing the typical creaking noise. With the dresser, the drawers don’t slide as smoothly anymore. Now I think the drawer slides might be the issue.

I appreciate that IKEA provides replacement parts; it’s good for both the wallet and the environment.

Exactly, I feel the same way, which is why I want to keep the furniture functional for as long as possible.

However, I have no experience ordering replacement parts yet. Can someone tell me if IKEA offers Hemnes replacement parts only online, or is it possible to ask for parts directly at the store? And most importantly: Are the parts reasonably priced, or can repairs become quite expensive?

Spare parts for Hemnes are available both at the IKEA store information desk and online. Prices are generally reasonable; for a drawer slide rail, you can expect to pay between 5 and 10 euros. Screws and small parts are usually even cheaper.

In my opinion, the IKEA Hemnes is quite solid, and if someone breaks it apart, they might want to work on how they handle furniture rather than on replacement parts.

Interesting perspective, but I see it a bit more nuanced. Certainly, Hemnes is sturdy, but many households with children or heavy use experience wear and tear that is unavoidable.

Moreover, it’s important not only to focus on perceived weaknesses but also to appreciate IKEA’s repair part offerings. For me, replacement parts are an advantage and make furniture more sustainable – practically fixing the everyday “break points.” That’s why I support a repair culture and believe the topic should not be viewed negatively at all.

You can request replacement parts both at the store's service desk and online. The advantage of visiting the store is that you often get personal advice and the exact parts you need right away. Ordering online is more convenient if you already know the article number.

For example, when handling drawer slides: you take out the drawer, measure the length of the sliding rails, compare the item with IKEA’s catalog, and then order precisely. Be aware that there are different production years for Hemnes – the sliding rails are not always compatible.

Prices are usually reasonable: drawer slides cost around 7–12 euros (8–14 USD), with screws and fasteners often even less. If you handle it carefully, you can significantly extend the product’s service life.

My advice: take a thorough walk-through and note all the parts you want to check to avoid ordering mistakes.
