ᐅ Ikea Metod: How Can I Attach Doors Quietly and Precisely?

Hello everyone, I am currently planning my kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and facing the challenge of mounting the doors so that they are both noise-free and perfectly aligned. Specifically, I am wondering how to best adjust the Metod hinges to ensure the doors fit tightly and close without any noise that might indicate poor alignment or a lack of soft-closing function. What is the recommended procedure during installation to precisely adjust the doors along all three axes, and are there any tips to optimize the performance of the built-in dampers? I have already experimented a bit, but the doors are either too loose or still rattle. I am really looking forward to your advice and experiences!

Thank you, those are already good tips. I have a further question: Is there a specific sequence to follow when adjusting the three axes? I have the feeling that adjusting the depth affects the previously set height settings, or vice versa.

Yes, I would definitely recommend one. First, adjust the height, as this has the most impact on the position of the door. Next, adjust the lateral (side-to-side) alignment to ensure even gaps between the doors or between the door and the cabinet frame. Finally, adjust the depth so the door sits flush against the frame and the soft-close mechanism works optimally.

If you change the order, previous adjustments often shift again. So it’s best to proceed step by step and check everything once more at the end.

I have found it helpful to close and open the door several times after each adjustment before proceeding. This way, you can better sense whether the setting has improved.

The whole process is really enjoyable once you get the hang of it! I think the best approach is to take your time and be a bit patient while fine-tuning. Eventually, everything runs smoothly and completely quietly – truly satisfying!!

It's interesting how often the hinges alone are the focus here. In my opinion, the system itself isn’t really designed optimally if you want to fix doors quietly. The dampers could be stronger, and the plastic components tend to wear out. If you want it really quiet and precise, you might consider using external dampers or alternative mounting methods.

That’s interesting. Are there external dampers compatible with Metod, or do you have to make your own? I would prefer not to deviate from the original installation but really want to avoid those small rattling noises in daily use.
