Hello everyone, I am currently planning my kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and facing the challenge of mounting the doors so that they are both noise-free and perfectly aligned. Specifically, I am wondering how to best adjust the Metod hinges to ensure the doors fit tightly and close without any noise that might indicate poor alignment or a lack of soft-closing function. What is the recommended procedure during installation to precisely adjust the doors along all three axes, and are there any tips to optimize the performance of the built-in dampers? I have already experimented a bit, but the doors are either too loose or still rattle. I am really looking forward to your advice and experiences!

Are there external dampers compatible with Metod that can be installed,

Hello, basically the Ikea dampers for Metod are designed to meet the needs of most users. There are silicone buffers or universal dampers available on the market that can be added underneath the cabinet carcass as an addition. However, these usually do not change the hinge function but mainly reduce impact noise. A complete replacement of the dampers on the Metod hinges would be complex and is not intended. My advice is to properly adjust the hinges and check the screws, then possibly add soft bumpers to the cabinet carcass – this usually achieves very good noise reduction.

Especially with older hinges, replacing them with new Metod models can help. The newer ones often have improved dampers and operate more smoothly.

I applied the tips over the weekend and can confirm: Adjusting in the order of height -> width -> depth really makes a big difference. Now the doors close almost silently and fit perfectly. Many thanks for the helpful contributions!

One more thing: I noticed that the damper on one door is stiff. Could this be due to the installation or more likely the plastic buffer? Should I replace the component or would cleaning it be sufficient?

There can be several reasons for this: Dust or grease often accumulates on the dampers, making them stiff. A thorough cleaning with a dry cloth can help.

If that’s not enough, the damper might be faulty and should be replaced. You can usually buy replacement parts, which are generally inexpensive and significantly improve functionality.

Important: Also check whether the hinge cover is properly snapped in place, as the damper will not work correctly otherwise.

If you have been diligently adjusting over the weekend, don’t forget to check again after a few days of use. Wood and fittings can settle slightly in daily use; making follow-up adjustments prevents future problems and noises.

The tip about the adjustment order was really helpful – it also helps to avoid frustration. Wishing you continued success!
