Hello everyone,

I am currently furnishing my bedroom mainly with IKEA furniture from the Brimnes series. Since the design of these pieces is quite distinctive and modern with clean lines, I am wondering which other furniture items—either from IKEA’s range or more generally—would visually complement Brimnes best to create a cohesive overall look.

I am particularly interested in which colors, materials, and styles work well with the white Brimnes furniture, some of which features glass elements. Should I lean towards simple, minimalist designs, or would adding some contrast with natural wood or perhaps even metallic accents be helpful?

Who can share their experience or offer good advice? Are there any specific IKEA combinations that work especially well for bedrooms when you already have Brimnes furniture?

Looking forward to a lively exchange.

Hi balisplo,

I completely understand your question, as I recently faced the same challenge. The BRIMNES series really has its own character with its modern yet somewhat minimalist design.

What helped me was trying to pair the furniture with warm wood tones to add a bit of coziness without breaking the style. For example, a bedside table made of light oak (not from IKEA, but similar light wood furniture is available there) or a rug with warm colors works wonderfully against the “cold” white.

It’s also important that other furniture pieces are not too bulky or overloaded, as the BRIMNES furniture already makes a strong statement. A bit of minimalism, as you mentioned, is definitely advisable.

For me, it was also important to avoid a too sterile look, so I added small color accents, for example through textiles, cushions, or lamps.

Maybe you’ll find some ideas here that inspire you.

Hello everyone,

I would like to point out that the question of visual compatibility of furniture with the BRIMNES series should be considered more carefully. It is not enough to look only at colors or shapes, but also at the material characteristics and the purpose of the furniture pieces.

What helped me: I tried placing furniture with warm wood tones next to it, which adds a bit of coziness without breaking the style.

That sounds plausible, but warm wood tones create a fairly strong contrast with the clean, white design of the BRIMNES furniture. This contrast is not automatically harmonious and can, depending on the room size and lighting conditions, appear somewhat unsettling.

Therefore, I recommend sticking to neutral colors and choosing materials with as homogeneous or complementary a combination as possible – for example, white, matte surfaces or subtle glass details that emphasize the existing theme.

Moreover, it should be considered that heavy-looking or very rustic furniture can disrupt the clear lines of BRIMNES. Important: The furniture must remain functional and clearly structured in design so that it visually serves as a calming element.

I am curious whether anyone can confirm or contradict these observations.

Hello,

to add to the previous comments: BRIMNES is characterized by a modern and functional design with clean lines, usually in painted white and sometimes with matte finishes. The following aspects should be considered when choosing matching furniture pieces:

- Color harmony: Furniture with white or light gray surfaces blends in seamlessly.
- Material texture: Smooth, painted surfaces or glass complement the look; wood-textured furniture can work if it is subtle and light.
- Style: Minimalist, straight-lined designs to maintain the modern character.
- Furniture size: Pieces should be proportional and not too bulky, to avoid overwhelming the space.

Recommendations from the IKEA range would be, for example, the Kullen dressers in white with simple handles or the MINNESUND nightstands, which are also kept minimalist. In addition, light textiles like curtains or bed linens can be chosen to create a harmonious atmosphere.

In conclusion, I would advise against strongly rustic or heavy furniture that might disrupt the clean style of the BRIMNES series.

Hello balisplo,

I would like to share some practical tips that I considered when furnishing with BRIMNES. First, BRIMNES furniture is designed for functionality, offering plenty of storage and a clean design. It makes sense to choose complementary furniture that matches this style to maintain a harmonious overall look.

- Try to use furniture with a similar shade of white or matte finishes to avoid color variations.
- To add more depth to the room, you can choose a shelf with glass or metal frames; although this is a mix of materials, it creates a light and open feel.
- Add accents with textiles: for example, light-colored bedding with subtle patterns or a delicate armchair in a subdued color tone.

I agree with this; it is advisable to look for collections that also focus on simplicity and functionality. I would avoid mixing too many different styles.

If you like, I can also share specific suggestions for models I found particularly suitable.
