Hello everyone,

I recently assembled several Ikea Hemnes furniture pieces, including cabinets and dressers. I noticed that some parts feel a bit wobbly after assembly, which is obviously not ideal and can be unsettling, especially with the larger items.

My question is: What concrete steps can help if Ikea Hemnes furniture wobbles after assembly? I have already checked that all screws are tightened properly, but some wobbling still occurs. Are there specific techniques, additional fasteners, or common assembly mistakes I should be aware of? I don’t just want to add more screws; I want to understand the cause to ensure long-term stability.

I’m looking forward to your tips and experiences!

Hey, I know that problem all too well! Hemnes looks great, but it can be a bit wobbly sometimes if you don’t pay attention to a few details.

- First, check all the screws again—neither too tight nor too loose; finding the right balance is key!
- Don’t forget the floor: uneven floors often cause furniture to wobble. Small felt or rubber pads on the feet can work wonders.
- And very important: the back panel on Hemnes furniture is quite thin. If it’s damaged or not properly fixed, the whole piece can become unstable. So always make sure the back panel is cleanly and firmly screwed or stapled in place.

Sometimes adding extra angle brackets (available at any hardware store) to the inside corners really helps.

Don’t worry, with a little care your Hemnes piece will be as stable as an oak! 😉

Hello,

The problem with Hemnes furniture often stems from its construction: most parts are made of solid pine wood, but wood swelling or slight manufacturing tolerances can create gaps that tightening the screws alone won’t immediately fix.

It’s important to proceed systematically:
- Tighten screws with a torque tool, but don’t overtighten as this can cause the wood to split.
- Applying wood glue at the joints before screwing them together can significantly improve stability.
- Check carefully that all dowels are properly inserted and fully seated, as small misalignments are often overlooked.
- The back panel not only stabilizes the piece but is crucial for torsional rigidity. If the back panel is not fixed with enough nails or staples, or if it has any cracks, the furniture will wobble noticeably.
- If the floor is uneven, adjustable furniture feet can help level the piece.

Have you tried securing the cabinet to the wall? Even standard wooden shelves become much more stable this way. Hemnes often includes mounting hardware for this purpose.

How exactly did you fix the back panel? And have you noticed any visible damage to the wood at the joints?

Have you possibly already tried attaching the cabinet to the wall?

Yes, wall attachments are almost mandatory for Hemnes.

- Check the screws.
- Secure the back panel.
- Align the feet.

This is often enough to stop the wobbling.

Hello!

I can only agree with what has already been said – and add a few positive thoughts: It’s definitely worth staying calm during assembly and following each step carefully!

The key points are:
- Attach the back panel correctly – for the Hemnes, it belongs exactly there, like salt in soup!
- Uneven floors can make even the nicest furniture wobble – a simple, clever solution is rubber furniture pads!
- And if nothing else helps: a few extra corner brackets from the hardware store are really effective! They are attached invisibly at the back and significantly increase stability.

I had the same issue; on the third try, my Hemnes was perfectly stable. So don’t get discouraged—it’s worth it! 😊

Good luck!
