Hello everyone, I have an issue with my IKEA Besta cabinet doors. Recently, they no longer close properly; when pushed shut, they either remain slightly open or immediately pop back open, even though, to my recollection, the hinges are correctly adjusted. Has anyone experienced the most common causes for this type of door not closing and how to fix the problem efficiently? The doors are about 2 years old, made of MDF with a plastic laminate, and I haven't noticed any visible damage to the edges or hinges. I would appreciate any tips or guidance!

Great that you described the issue in such detail! 🙂 With BESTA doors, this sometimes happens to me when the hinges become slightly loose or the adjustable screws are misaligned. Definitely check if the doors are properly flush against the cabinet frame. Often, it helps to gently adjust the hinges with an Allen key so that the door is slightly pushed inward and then closes properly. Important: Don’t apply too much force, as this can damage the veneer. If the magnets are loose, the doors might also not fully close. If you feel confident, you can even remove the hinges completely and reinstall them – this has saved several of my doors! Keep going, this can definitely be fixed!

To add on and organize the information a bit: The problem is usually caused by one of the following issues: - Hinges incorrectly adjusted (height, depth, lateral adjustment) - Dirt or foreign objects in the hinges blocking movement - Uneven surfaces in the cabinet body or door preventing proper closing - Worn or damaged damping elements or magnets It is recommended to first systematically check the hinges using a hex key: - Screw 1 for lateral adjustment - Screw 2 for height - Screw 3 for depth While slowly closing the door, observe when the contact improves. If this does not help, the hinges may need to be replaced. The condition of the cabinet body could also be a cause, especially with older furniture. Extra care is advised with MDF doors due to the foil covering.

I can totally relate to that – sometimes it really feels overwhelming, especially if you have no experience with furniture hinges. I recently had a similar issue with a BESTA door that wouldn’t close at one spot and kept popping open. What helped me was to carefully adjust each screw little by little and test the door repeatedly along the way. It’s also important not to get discouraged! Your description sounds very precise, so I’m sure you’ll manage it. By the way, have you checked if the door or the cabinet might be warped?

I would like to add that I often had the problem of dust or small particles collecting in the hinge mechanisms. Although not visible, they blocked the fine adjustment. It is therefore worth fully opening the hinges and carefully cleaning them with a damp cloth. Afterwards, readjust everything. This made my doors closeable again. At the same time, also check the magnetic contacts on the inside, as they can sometimes work wonders.

Thank you very much for the helpful advice! The door actually feels like it is positioned too far forward, so it doesn’t close properly against the cabinet. I suspect I need to adjust the screw for depth a bit.

One more question: If I want to set the door deeper (meaning closer to the cabinet), should I turn the screw clockwise or counterclockwise? I don’t want to cause any damage and I don’t have instructions for this. If anyone has precise information, I would appreciate it.
