Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my built-in wardrobe and would like to use the Ikea PAX system. My specific question is: Which Ikea drawers fit best into the PAX wardrobe, particularly regarding optimal use of depth and width, stability, and functionality?
I have considered different widths and heights of the PAX system (e.g., 50cm (20 inches) and 75cm (30 inches) wide) and would like to know if there are recommendations for specific drawer models that install well without issues related to smooth operation or load capacity.
I am also curious about any differences between wooden drawer fronts and plastic or metal variants in terms of compatibility or handling.
I would greatly appreciate your experience and tips—preferably detailed, including notes on dimensions and possible alternatives within the Ikea system.
Thank you in advance!

From my own experience with the PAX wardrobe: the STANDARD drawers from IKEA (not the Hemnes range) fit best and are stable.
A tip:
- If you divide the drawer interior in depth, you can store smaller items at the back and larger ones at the front without everything getting mixed up.
- The drawers usually have metal side panels with ball-bearing runners.
What convinced me is that the system is quite robust, especially with the 75cm (30 inch) wide PAX carcasses, where you can definitely store heavier items.
However, it is important to measure carefully, as the effective depth of the drawers can be less with certain fronts.

The METOD drawer is not suitable for the PAX system.
Use the PAX-specific drawers with metal sides. They are sturdy and fit perfectly.
Pay attention to the cabinet depth (35 cm (14 inches) vs. 58 cm (23 inches)).
With a depth of 58 cm (23 inches), there are deeper drawers available that are better suited for larger items.

IKEA offers different front mounting techniques (push-to-open, tip-on, handles, etc.).
If you prefer a silent and sleek design, I recommend the tip-on system. However, this requires using sufficiently strong drawer runners; otherwise, the lifespan of the components may be reduced.
It is also important to check whether the drawer runners for the specific drawer type are telescopic runners with soft-close – especially recommended for heavier loads.

If you value a quiet and sleek design, I recommend the TIP-ON mechanism. That sounds good. Are there significant cost differences for TIP-ON in the PAX system compared to standard drawers?

So if you are looking for “the best” drawers, you should first clearly define what “best” means: durability, design, price, or ease of cleaning?Based on your posts, I’m leaning towards sturdy PAX drawers with metal sides, soft-close, and TIP-ON if possible. Design is secondary for me, and the price shouldn’t be excessively high.
Do you have any tips for installation or combining them with interior organization accessories like inserts?
