Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion on the topic: How can Ikea Pax be used optimally as a room divider? My focus is on how to use the custom Pax systems so that they not only serve as functional storage but also effectively divide spaces in open-plan layouts without overwhelming the room. It is important to me to find a good balance between openness and separation. What options and design possibilities are there, for example with doors, shelf inserts, or lighting? Are there any tips on which dimensions to pay special attention to, or how to make the whole setup stable yet easily accessible?

The room divider should thus serve as a half-height storage solution, ideally for books, decoration, and occasional kitchen utensils.

That fits well together! For your purpose, I recommend:

- A modular Pax system about 150 cm (60 inches) high
- Closed back panels on the dining side to store kitchen utensils
- Open shelves on the living room side for books and decor
- Stability ensured by connectors between the modules and secure wall mounting
- Shelf lighting for special accents, e.g., LED strips

A practical tip: Plan for easier-access compartments or drawers facing the dining area for dishes or small appliances.

That really makes a big difference! I fitted my Pax room divider with warm LEDs; it not only adds more depth to the whole setup but also makes it feel much cozier. Plus, you can even use the room divider as an indirect light source – both practical and stylish at the same time. Oh, and don’t forget to add some plants for a fresh touch. 😊

This is a very valid question, especially in times of open floor plans. My recommendation for planning the Pax room divider is to strive for an optimal balance between materiality and transparency. Solutions such as scratch-resistant glass or half-height panels with slim frames provide visual separation without limiting light or spaciousness. Modular elements that can be repositioned or added as needed also greatly increase flexibility.
