Hello everyone, I have a question about repairing my Ikea Metod countertop. I recently noticed that it has some deeper scratches—probably caused by an unfortunate incident with a sharp knife. Since the countertop is made of laminated chipboard, I’m unsure how to best repair these scratches without leaving noticeable marks or further damaging the surface.
I would like to know which materials or methods are most suitable for repairing the countertop—whether there are special repair kits available, or if simple household items like wood filler, sandpaper, or varnish can be used.
Has anyone had experience with this, especially with this model or similar countertops? What is the best approach to restoring the surface as smoothly and functionally as possible?
I look forward to your tips and step-by-step advice!

Regarding your scratches: For Metod countertops, a wood repair kit designed for laminate and wood surfaces usually works well. You can use it to fill in the scratches with matching color and filler. It’s important to clean the surface thoroughly beforehand and lightly sand it so the filler sticks better!
After it dries, you can finely sand the area and seal it (for example, with clear varnish) to make the repair barely noticeable. Don’t give up, it’s definitely doable!

Thanks in advance for the quick replies! A quick follow-up: How much can I sand the surface without completely removing the laminate layer? And does anyone have a tip on how to match the color of the repair compound as closely as possible to the wood tone of the Metod panel?
I have also wondered whether a wax stick really provides a long-lasting solution – does it hold up well on laminate over time, or is it only suitable for minor, superficial scratches?
