Hello everyone, I am facing the challenge of assembling the IKEA Metod tall cabinets on my own. Since the cabinets are quite large and heavy, I’m wondering how to complete the assembly safely and accurately without assistance. Especially with multiple modules that need to be secured to the wall and where doors and drawers must fit precisely afterward, I’m not sure what the best approach is. Can anyone offer tips on how to do this efficiently without a second person? Are there any specific techniques, tools, or tricks that make the assembly easier? I’m also interested in how you handle attaching the back panels and leveling the cabinets when working alone. Thank you in advance for any advice!

It is best to pre-assemble the cabinets lying on their sides. Loosely screw on the back panels first, then stand the furniture upright and drill into the wall. Install the doors only at the very end, once everything is in place.

Hey, you can definitely do it! 🙂 A little tip that sometimes helps: place towels or blankets under the cabinet to prevent slipping or scratches during assembly. I also find it very useful to sort everything well in advance and number the parts according to the instructions. If you come across a step that’s difficult to do alone, take a short break and maybe sort the screws first. That way, you stay motivated and the assembly goes smoothly!

I remember assembling the Metod tall cabinet on my own back then – sure, it’s not rocket science, but it does require some planning. My tip: use sturdy furniture casters or a low-profile hand truck to easily move heavy cabinet units after assembly and slide them into place. And don’t worry about fitting the back panel; if needed, you can install it in smaller sections, which gives you better control. Pro tip: take a short break now and then and smile – building furniture can be fun! 😉

Regarding safety and accuracy, I recommend the following approach: - Use clamps to temporarily hold components in place - Initially attach the back panel only at certain points to keep the frame adjustable - Check both the position of the cabinets and the door installation with a spirit level - Tighten the fixing screws only by hand at first to allow for any necessary adjustments - If needed, use a small angle template to properly align the hinges These details will help you assemble everything precisely and safely on your own.

Thanks for the tip, that makes sense. But what about stability — is there a risk of warping if you assemble them on their side?

That sounds very helpful. Does anyone have experience with whether regular clamps from a hardware store are sufficient, or do you need specialized tools?

I also find it challenging to know when to loosely screw in the back panels and when it’s better to fasten them firmly. Perhaps you could explain this in more detail, especially regarding how to properly align the cabinet carcass without a second person.
