Hello everyone,

I am planning to use the IKEA Platsa system as a room divider in my apartment but am still unsure about how well the furniture performs in practice.
Specifically, I am interested in how robust and stable the individual units are when placed across the room, so not leaning against a wall.
Also, how well can the compartments be customized if you want to include different sizes or heights within one shelving unit?
Do any of you use PLATSA as a room divider, for example to visually separate the living area and workspace? How does it look and how practical is it for everyday use?

Thanks in advance for your experiences and opinions, and feel free to share tips on assembly or additional suggestions!

Hey! I’ve been using PLATSA myself for a few months as a room divider between the living and dining areas, and I can say it’s surprisingly sturdy when assembled correctly. 😊 The key is using the connectors, which really add good stability – without them, it can get wobbly quickly.

I really like the flexibility: you can mix heights and depths depending on what you want to store. For example, I combined open shelves with closed cabinets, which looks really stylish and modern.

For me, it also works as a good “scent diffuser” (just kidding 😉) because it keeps the space very open while still defining different zones. Visually it’s successful, and the assembly goes quickly with the instructions.

If you want, I can share some tips on assembly, especially how to make it as secure as possible without having to add extra screws.

I’d like to take this opportunity to provide a brief overview, especially for those planning to use PLATSA as a room divider.

1. Stability: The system is very stable when assembled correctly. It’s important to use the included metal connectors; otherwise, it may tip over under heavy load.

2. Adjustability: PLATSA is modular. The width, height, and depth can be adjusted in the individual segments, which is a big advantage for room dividers. You can mix open and closed compartments.

3. Assembly tip: If the furniture piece stands freely in the room, the back panels should definitely be installed to significantly increase stability. Consider also floor protection or wall anchoring for stability, depending on the footprint.

4. Use: I have personally used it to separate a workspace from the living room. Since it doesn’t feel too bulky, the room stays airy while the division remains visually clear.

5. Miscellaneous: When choosing doors, be sure to check the opening clearance, as tight spaces may restrict movement when used as a room divider.

Overall, PLATSA is a very good choice if you want to stay flexible. It’s worth planning carefully before purchasing which modules and doors to use and where to position them.

I completely agree! I separated my studio with PLATSA and love the options for custom configurations!!

Also, the materials are high-quality and feel durable.

This is very important; otherwise, the piece can really wobble – especially if you have children or pets in the house!

I can only recommend taking some time to measure and plan carefully, because PLATSA offers so many combination possibilities that it’s easy to forget something. But if you do it right, it becomes a real eye-catcher and a practical room divider!

So: get planning and have fun! 🙂
