Hello everyone,
I recently purchased some IKEA Hemnes furniture and I’m unsure about the best way to clean it without damaging the surface or material. From what I understand, the Hemnes series is mostly made of solid pine wood with a paint or stain finish that could be sensitive to the wrong cleaning products or overly damp cloths.
I’m especially interested in which cleaning products are suitable, whether it’s better to use damp or dry cloths, and how to gently remove stains or heavier dirt. Are there any specific do’s and don’ts when caring for this type of furniture?
I would really appreciate it if anyone with experience or expertise could help me maintain the value and appearance of my Hemnes furniture over the long term.

Apply oil every 2-3 months, not too much.I think that’s a bit excessive. Too much maintenance oil can actually do more harm by attracting dust and making the surface greasy.
I find it more reasonable to oil the furniture only when there are visible dry spots or after a longer period—maybe once a year. Instead, it’s better to clean gently with a dry cloth more often.
Sometimes furniture is over-maintained, which in my opinion causes more problems than benefits.
