gatodoHello everyone,
I am currently thinking about how to best combine the Brimnes furniture series from IKEA with other IKEA collections without making the overall look feel cluttered or mismatched. I am particularly interested in which series or individual pieces you would recommend when using BRIMNES as a base, for example the bed or wardrobe, and whether there are specific colors, materials, or design elements that complement each other well.
I have also heard that some IKEA series vary a lot in style – does anyone have experience with which combinations work harmoniously and which ones are better to avoid? I want to create a clear design direction in my bedroom or living area, but without making everything too plain.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Regarding your question about how to combine BRIMNES with other IKEA series, I have put together a few points that should help you:
- BRIMNES is known for its rather classic, simple design with white surfaces and clean lines. This makes it a good match for other series with a similarly understated or Scandinavian style.
- It is advisable to choose series whose color schemes do not clash – BRIMNES is usually available in white or black-brown, so for example Ektorp as a seating series in light or neutral colors, or Malm with a similarly simple look.
- Avoid very rustic or very modern, glossy high-tech series (e.g., BESTÅ in high gloss) – this can quickly create a visually unsettling effect.
- Also pay attention to size proportions: BRIMNES furniture is often rather compact, so very bulky cabinets next to it can quickly feel overwhelming.
One last tip: If possible, place the furniture in the room beforehand or sketch the layout to see how harmonious the combination looks.
If you have any further questions, I’ll be happy to help.

BRIMNES often presents itself in a country-style with a contemporary touch, which means that series with a similar blend of classic and modern styles complement it well.
It gets interesting when you combine BRIMNES with series that create contrast – for example, Hemnes, which focuses more on traditional shapes and visible wood grain. This can be exciting if you want to create deliberate accents, but you have to ensure a good balance so that the overall look does not become too busy.
I also recommend not only paying attention to materials and appearance but also to functionality: soft-close doors or storage options should match so that usage remains comfortable.
What do you think about this perspective?

When combining BRIMNES with other series, it’s important to aim for a harmonious overall effect. It is especially advisable to choose a consistent color palette for accessories and smaller furniture pieces to create a calmer overall look.

I’ve also heard that some IKEA series have very different styles – does anyone have experience with which combinations work well together and which are better to avoid? In my opinion, combinations of very different design languages should be avoided, such as BRIMNES paired with the PS collections or series with a very industrial look. These usually don’t work well together.
