I recently purchased the IKEA Brimnes bed frame and now I’m wondering: is it better to assemble the IKEA Brimnes alone or with two people?

I understand that it’s a fairly large piece of furniture with various parts and screws. Since I have mainly assembled smaller furniture on my own so far, I’m curious whether having help with the Brimnes is really necessary – or if it can be done well alone.

I’m particularly interested in practical aspects like handling the larger components, possible difficulties with aligning and securing the parts, as well as safety during assembly. If anyone has experience, I would also appreciate tips on which tools or aids might be especially useful.

My apartment is not very large, so my workspace is limited – this is a factor in my decision whether to start alone or with a second person.

That’s an excellent question, and to answer it thoroughly, a few important points should be considered.

Basically, the BRIMNES bed isn’t an extremely complex piece of furniture, but assembling it does require a systematic approach as well as sufficient strength and coordination, especially when handling larger parts like the slatted frames and bed frame.

I definitely recommend assembling the frame with two people, and here are the reasons:

- The biggest challenge is aligning the side panels and securely fixing the frame structure. Attempting this alone can be unstable and cumbersome.
- Some parts, such as the wooden panels for the storage compartment, are bulky and heavy, so having an extra pair of hands is a great help.
- Even when installing fittings, especially screws and dowels on the side walls, precision is important, which is easier and safer with assistance.

If you are skilled in DIY tasks and have enough time and patience, the project is generally doable alone. However, in that case, it’s ideal to use tools for securing parts in position, such as clamps or temporary supports.

What does your tool kit look like? Do you have a drill, a ratcheting screwdriver, or just basic hand tools? And what is the exact size of your workspace at home?

In general, I would say it’s more practical to assemble the IKEA BRIMNES with two people.

Of course, some furniture can be assembled alone without any problem, but with BRIMNES, the components tend to be quite large and awkward to handle. Also, correctly fitting the parts together is crucial to ensure the frame is stable and secure.

Having an extra pair of hands can really help with holding parts in place, aligning them, and driving in screws.

If assembling it entirely on your own isn’t an option, you might consider getting short-term help for certain steps—such as aligning the side panels or tipping the finished frame upright.

It’s also important to carefully read the instructions and follow them step by step to avoid mistakes.

Do you have a friend or family member who could assist you?

Here is a structured approach that might help you decide:

1. Preparation:
- Choose a well-organized, well-lit room.
- Lay out all the parts and tools.

2. Assessing your own skills:
- If you have experience assembling furniture and are patient, you can manage many steps alone.
- However, if you have little experience or are unsure about stability and alignment, having a second person is very helpful.

3. Challenging steps in assembling the BRIMNES:
- Joining the large side panels
- Placing and aligning the slatted base (bed frame)
- Assembling or tightening screws in hard-to-reach areas

4. Tips for working alone:
- Use clamps to hold parts in place.
- Work in stages and focus on secure connections.

5. Working with two people:
- Ideal division of tasks: one person holds parts while the other screws.
- Faster and safer process.

Summary: For most people, assembling with two people is recommended to ensure optimal stability and safety while reducing stress.

It is definitely better to assemble the bed with two people. The bed is large and bulky, making it difficult to hold and align the parts correctly on your own. You need at least one other person for the side panels and the slatted frame.

Assembling it with two people is definitely better.

I can only agree – the BRIMNES is not lightweight, and putting it together properly alone is almost a small feat of strength. 😄

My advice: Just have fun with it! With two people, it’s much more relaxed, and you can take short coffee breaks in between because a cozy bed awaits you at the end.

Also, assembling with two people often goes more smoothly because you can help each other out when things get tricky.

Tools: A cordless drill is worth it; it saves a lot of time!
