I recently purchased the IKEA Brimnes bed frame and now I’m wondering: is it better to assemble the IKEA Brimnes alone or with two people?
I understand that it’s a fairly large piece of furniture with various parts and screws. Since I have mainly assembled smaller furniture on my own so far, I’m curious whether having help with the Brimnes is really necessary – or if it can be done well alone.
I’m particularly interested in practical aspects like handling the larger components, possible difficulties with aligning and securing the parts, as well as safety during assembly. If anyone has experience, I would also appreciate tips on which tools or aids might be especially useful.
My apartment is not very large, so my workspace is limited – this is a factor in my decision whether to start alone or with a second person.

Is it better to assemble the IKEA BRIMNES furniture alone or with two people? In practical terms, the following points support assembling it with two people:
- Load: Some parts, such as the side panels and slatted frame, are heavy and cumbersome.
- Precision: Securing the connection points is easier with a helper.
- Time: A second person helps speed up the process.
Assembling alone is generally possible if you proceed very carefully and use tools or supports to hold parts in place. However, this requires significantly more time and skill.
Recommendation: For optimal safety and efficiency, I always recommend assembling with two people.

However, if you are skilled in DIY and have enough time and patience, the project is basically doable on your own.I agree with this assessment. Another factor is physical fitness – without strength, solo installers might struggle with the larger furniture parts.
But if you work carefully and systematically, step by step, assembling it alone can succeed. The key is mainly to use stable supports and temporary holders.

I agree with this assessment.Exactly, and this highlights the point that alongside physical resources, careful planning is also important.
Another consideration regarding space: The Brimnes bed requires a generous area during assembly to lay out all the parts properly. In small rooms, having a helper is valuable not only for the physical work but also to hold items temporarily and tidy up, which can quickly become chaotic when working alone.
How large is your room exactly? Could that possibly be a constraint?

My workspace is about 12 m² (130 ft²), so not very large but sufficient if I stay well organized.
That was also one of my concerns – that the room might feel quite cluttered while assembling.
@Josan, unfortunately there is no one nearby at the moment who can help with assembly, so for me it’s more a question of whether it’s feasible to do it alone with the right tools and patience, or if it would be better to arrange for help.
Maybe someone has tips on how to make solo assembly as efficient and safe as possible?

Maybe someone has a tip on how I can make the assembly as efficient and safe as possible when working alone? Here are some practical tips if you really want to assemble the BRIMNES by yourself:
- Use sturdy clamps or grips to temporarily hold the side panels together.
- A small workbench or solid boxes can help raise parts to working height and make screwing easier.
- Follow the assembly instructions step by step, without rushing.
- Always use a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque to avoid over-tightening screws.
- Make sure to insert all screws loosely before fully tightening them—this allows for adjustments.
- Keep screws handy in a small container to save time.
- Take breaks from time to time to maintain focus and accuracy.
If you follow these tips, you can manage the assembly well without help. In the end, however, the feeling of safety and stability is what matters most.
