Hello everyone,
I have noticed that the doors of my IKEA BILLY cabinet have started to creak noticeably when I open or close them. The noise is quite annoying and detracts from the otherwise good quality of the furniture. My specific question is: how can I permanently and effectively eliminate the creaking of the BILLY doors?
I have already checked that the hinges are secure, but it is difficult for me to identify other causes. Who has experience with this issue and can provide concrete tips on which tools and methods are best to prevent or fix the creaking?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Lightly spray hinges and moving parts with WD-40 or silicone sprayThis advice is generally useful. However, with furniture like BILLY, it is important to ensure that the lubricant used does not leave marks on visible surfaces.
To reduce squeaking, I recommend the following structured approach:
1. Check that all screws on the door hinges are tight and retighten if necessary.
2. Treat the hinges with a suitable dry lubricant or silicone spray. While WD-40 can be used, it contains aggressive solvents that may damage wooden surfaces.
3. Then open and close the doors slowly several times to allow the lubricant to spread evenly.
4. If noises persist, inspect the hinge recess in the wood for foreign objects or damage.
These steps are gentle and effective for permanently eliminating squeaking.

WD-40 is usable, but it also contains aggressive solvents that can damage wood surfaces. This is an important point that many overlook. There are also other possible causes of the creaking beyond the hinges, such as slight warping due to moisture or stress in the wood.
Therefore, I would suggest not only maintaining the hinges but also checking the door itself for any tensions. Sometimes it helps to remove the doors and rehung them while checking that all components fit flush.

Tightening screwsThis measure can improve the situation temporarily, but if the wood already shows defects, it is only a short-term solution.
Could someone confirm whether the creaking in BILLY doors is also caused by stress on the hinges due to distortion factors? This would be relevant for a long-term fix.
