Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Ikea Brimnes sideboard and, after assembling it, noticed that the piece isn’t level. More precisely, it tilts slightly forward, even though I tightened all the screws carefully and followed the assembly instructions exactly. My question is: What can I do if Ikea Brimnes furniture isn’t level after assembly?

Are there any specific tips for adjustment, am I possibly underestimating the impact of uneven floors, or should I consider loosening some parts completely and realigning them? I would appreciate practical advice and experiences, especially if anyone has had similar issues and can recommend concrete solutions.

I can definitely understand how frustrating it must be when such a big investment ends up uneven. With my Brimnes furniture, I often felt like the floor wasn’t completely level, which made the whole thing look crooked.

My advice: first check with a spirit level whether the floor is really even before tinkering with the construction again. Often it helps a lot to place small felt or rubber pads under the furniture legs to balance things out and prevent scratches.

I’ve also noticed that the back panel sometimes needs to be mounted a bit tighter or looser, as stability is really important. Maybe you could double-check all the screws – being too tight or too loose can also throw the furniture off balance.

Don’t worry, this is a common issue, and with patience you’ll definitely get it sorted!

Here is a focused, step-by-step approach to tackle the problem:

- First, use a spirit level to check exactly where the deviation from level occurs (is it leaning at the front, back, or sides?).
- If the floor is uneven, place small shims or felt pads under the affected furniture legs to balance it out.
- Check that all screws are properly tightened—over-tightening can warp the furniture, while under-tightening reduces stability.
- For Brimnes furniture, pay special attention to correctly installing the back panel, as it prevents twisting along both length and width.
- Sometimes loosening individual parts and carefully realigning them, especially the side panels, helps.

Important: Patience and a systematic approach will lead to success. I also recommend carefully reviewing the instruction manual again, step by step, without hesitation.

I would like to go into the technical aspects in more detail: with Brimnes furniture, the issue often lies less in the assembly force itself and more in the mechanical distribution of stress.

1. Check level: Use an accurate spirit level at several points (front, back, sides) to assess the floor surface. Uneven floors are the most common cause of tilting.

2. Connections: The back panel in Brimnes models is usually made of particle board. Ensure it is secured flat and without warping throughout. Any tension there can cause the furniture to lean.

3. Inspect fittings: Sometimes the pre-drilled holes or dowels are not perfectly aligned. Loose or crooked metal fittings can lead to instability.

4. Adjustment: If the furniture tilts forward, try adjusting the adjustable furniture feet – many Brimnes models have them at the corners to compensate for uneven floors.

5. Load distribution: Check whether heavy items might be affecting the tilt problem.

If you want, you can share exact measurements and the type of flooring, and I can provide more specific advice.

That’s definitely the first step! Otherwise, you'll just wear out your screwdriver without getting any closer to a solution 😅

I once had a slight tilt with a Brimnes wardrobe, and after I finally realized the floor was slightly sloped, I simply stuck a few felt pads under the back feet – and just like that, everything was straight and perfect again 😊

And hey, sometimes it helps to take a deep breath, put on some music, so frustration doesn’t take over. Assembling furniture can be a real adventure, but you’ll make sure it looks great in the end 😎

Exactly, it is often the small steps that are overlooked the first time. Make sure the back panel is properly secured and check the legs. Also verify that everything is level on the floor.
