Hello everyone, I have a specific question for those familiar with Ikea BESTA systems: How can I make the doors of my BESTA cabinets close more quietly and smoothly? At the moment, they close quite loudly and sometimes a bit roughly, which is especially noticeable in a quiet environment. Are there any proven technical improvements, suitable soft-close mechanisms, or installation tips that can make the closing movement gentler? I’m looking for simple and cost-effective retrofit options that can be implemented without much effort. I look forward to your experience and advice!

Hey! I know that problem all too well! Unfortunately, BESTA doors tend to close a bit too hard. What worked really well for me are these self-adhesive silicone bumpers that you stick directly on the inside of the doors. They effectively soften the impact and almost eliminate the slamming! 😄 Of course, there are also special door dampers available for retrofitting, but the adhesive ones are quick and inexpensive. Don’t get discouraged; you’ll manage it easily!

In general, it is important to distinguish whether the loud noise is caused solely by the impact on the cabinet body or if the hinges also play a role. Ikea often uses simple metal or plastic hinges without built-in dampers for BESTA. It can be helpful to replace these hinges with damped versions, which are available separately. Alternatively, properly adjusting the door gap measurements ensures that the doors do not slam unnecessarily against the cabinet body. Adding self-adhesive silicone buffers to the contact areas provides additional cushioning but must be correctly positioned to avoid wear and improper stress.

As an additional note: With the Ikea BESTA system, it should be noted that the doors often come without built-in dampers. The following measures can improve the closing mechanism:
- Use of soft-close hinges that are compatible (pay attention to dimensions and mounting).
- Installation of separate door dampers, which are glued to the inner edges.
- Adjustment of the hinges to optimize closing pressure and speed.
- Replacement of standard rubber buffers with higher-quality dampers.
A targeted approach that combines several of these points can effectively reduce noise and closing force.

Adjust the hinges, attach soft buffers, or retrofit a soft-close mechanism. That would be my recommendation.

I would first check if the doors are properly installed, have no play, and if the hinges are securely fixed. If so, use soft bumpers or purchase suitable damped hinges.
